Thanksgiving is 3 2 weeks away, which seems so far away but I know it will sneak up quickly. While I would love to make a big deal out of Thanksgiving I think it will be pretty low-key for us. I have Thurs-Sunday off but at that point I will only have a month left until degree project is due so most of the ‘time off’ won’t be for relaxing. Also, I think Price will have to work on Black Friday so that basically eliminates traveling on Thanksgiving.
Even though our Thanksgiving will be simple I have been getting amped up for trying some new things this year. I have done various things in the past like sour cream pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie.. you get the picture. Thinking that it will be the 2 of us I don’t want to focus on the desserts so I am going to focus on sides. Making enough turkey and sides will allow us to have plenty of leftovers that we can portion and freeze so we can have food later on when things get really hectic at the end of the semester. (Jeeze, I’m such a dork)
Being that I am a Martha Stewart wanna be I watch her show and listen to her station on Sirius. She is going to be doing a Thanksgiving Hotline from 11.23 to 11.25 on her radio station with a lot of guest chefs taking calls and giving tips. On Sirius you can download a 30 dish recipe book from the chefs featured on the hotline. I already have mine downloaded and I have selected a few things to consider making.
So a couple of dishes I am considering…. Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta (I have never had brussels sprouts), Barely Risotto, Sweet Potato Bourbon Mash, and Leek Bread Pudding. Either way I do need to keep somethings traditional like steamed carrots with pineapple and lots of cranberry sauce, which is Price’s favorite.
