For the Chocolate Cake
  • 3/4 Cup  butter softened
  • eggs at room temperature
  • 2 Cups  all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 Cup  unsweetened cocoa powder
  • teaspoon  baking soda
  • 3/4  teaspoon  baking powder
  • 1/2  teaspoon salt
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 Cups whole milk
For the Frosting
  • 1 Cup unsalted butter softened
  • 6 ounces semi sweet chocolate melted and cooled
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons whole milk
  • 2 Cups powdered sugar sifted
To decorate
  • 20 Oreos crushed
  • 8 zombie hands on a stick Treat Street
  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease/spray 2 9x1-1/2-inch round cake pans. Line bottom of pans with parchment paper. Grease/spray bottoms and sides of pans. Set pans aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl stir together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder; and salt; set aside.
  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Gradually add the sugar, beating on medium speed until well combined (3 to 4 minutes). Scrape down the sides of bowl; then continue beating for 2 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition (about 1 minute total). Beat in the vanilla extract
  5. Incorporate half of the flour mixture and then beat on low speed until just combined, then half of the milk until just combined. Scrape down the bowl. Repeat with the rest of the flour and milk. Beat on medium to high speed for 20 seconds more. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pans, peel off the parchment paper, then continue to cool thoroughly on wire rack.
  7. While the cake is cooling, make the frosting. In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter on medium to high speed until light and fluffy. Add the chocolate and beat well. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Then slowly mix in the milk, scrape down again. Slowly incorporate the powdered sugar while mixing on low. Once fully incorporated, beat on medium speed until very fluffy, about 1 minute.
  8. Place 1 layer of cake on the serving tray or cake stand, frost the first layer of cake and then add the second later, and complete frosting the top and sides.
  9. Cover the top of the cake with 2/3 of the crushed Oreos and sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos around the bottom of the cake. Stick the zombie hands into the top of the cake.
