Giving our bedroom a wallpaper accent wall has helped transform our room from a basic room into a bedroom retreat.
Thank you to Photowall for providing us with the wallpaper for our kids rooms. All opinions are my own.

Our bedroom has felt very plain since we moved in, so we kick started the refresh with installing some wallpaper giving it a feature wall accent.

We have lived in our house for a little over 4 years, in that time we have worked hard at making it feel like ‘home’. This has meant getting new furniture that we have blended in with our existing pieces we took with use from Chelsea, MA. We have taken on some DIY projects as well, like the electric fireplace my husband installed in our living room, which we then has flanked by custom shelving.
All of these things have made this feel like this home really belongs to us and was the prefect fit for us too.
One of the things we really liked about our house as that the primary suite was on the 2nd floor. A lot of homes in our community have the primary suite on the 1st floor, but we wanted it on the 2nd floor so it would be close to the kids rooms.
Plus, we really liked the configuration of the bathroom and walk in closet in relationship with the bedroom. Our builder also had a lot of options for the model and one of them was a free standing tub. LOVE IT!
Bedroom Furniture
When we moved, we were able to upgrade our queen sized bed to a king sized bed.
We looked at several furniture stores (in person and online) and selected the Strarmore bed frame from Ashley. We liked the simple lines, how sturdy it looked and felt, and the price of it.
Besides that, I purchased the 32″ Carson Bookcase and put up 2 shelves from Target, got curtains from Ikea, and hung up some framed pictures that we had when we lived in Chelsea, MA.
Overall the room was pretty plain, but worked because it was simple and not cluttered. But it sorta felt boring and in need of a plan to tie it all together.

Wallpaper Accent Wall
Last year, we installed PhotoWall accent wall paper in both our kids rooms. The process was easy and a lot of fun. It added the perfect amount of ‘pop’ to their rooms
The kids helped pick out their wallpaper in their rooms. Hunter’s room was a nice blue accent and Autumn’s is a pink whimsical one with feathers that reminds her of the “Wingardium Leviosa” scene in the Harry Potter books.
Photowall approached me again about another collab so I was excited about getting to pick out something new for our house.
After searching through the many wallpapers and mural available, we decided on the “Ginkgo Leaves in Blowin in Wing- Beige” because it was bold without being colorful. In fact the colors would appear golden so it gives the wall a nice shimmer without he actual glittery effect.
Normally, I see accent walls installed behind the bed, like what we did in Hunter’s room. I like that look but with the wall behind our bed having a slight curve behind it at the bathroom door, it felt like it didn’t have a real starting point.
We installed the accent wallpaper across from the bed, which also allows us to enjoy looking at it whenever we are in bed.
Plus, it helps take up some real estate on the largest wall in the room. So now we have something that is a focus point but not busy.
Our (Extra!) Bathroom Accent Wall
Originally, we had selected this wallpaper to use in the playroom so that it would give an accent to a big space that would be highly visible
While the wall paper was in transit, we just decided that we could actually have it in our room. The pattern was nice and mellow for a bedroom, a great scale for the wall. It would help to spruce up our bedroom. We need to treat ourselves to something for us, not just for the house.
Because we had measured for the longer playroom wall, we ended up having some extra. Thankfully we had enough to put an accent wall in our bathroom toilet closet.
To Do List:
Now, we still have plenty to do in our bedroom! This was just the project to get us inspired to do something grand in our room.
One of the next things to dive into it is getting new night stands. The nightstands that came our bedroom set were really pricey, especially since I didn’t like how bulky they looked. We have some inexpensive ones that we picked up knowing they were going to temporary.
Ikeas has plain wooden 3-drawer dressers that I plan on DIY’ing to work with our room. I will cut down the legs to make it the appropriate height, stain it, and give it new hardware. It is currently out of stock so I’m watching it like a hawk so I get when it’s back in stock later this month.
We have our to do list:
- Install new picture in frames
- get small dressers for nightstands, then DIY them
- New drapes
- Pick out fan, install
I can’t wait to keep working on our room to make it a great retreat for us.
