I don’t get it.
I just go get it why Boston officials allowed Bruins jerseys to be put on statues in Boston. Who thought it was okay to cover up a statue of George Washington or Paul Revere? The men did great things to help our country gain it’s freedom. They have had statues built in their honor and we show them disrespect like this?
Yes, I admit that I could not care less about the Stanely Cup. I only went to my first hockey game a few months ago. However, regardless of the fact that I don’t care about hockey, I still think it’s wrong. They did the same thing to the Make Way for Ducklings statues on the common, which I don’t have an issue with. The are based on a children’s book and little kids sit on the ducks, so clearly not the same significance as statues of historic figures. Clearly this little girl loves it.
Maybe I’ll just be viewed as a downer about it but I think there are other ways of Boston to show it’s pride and support for the Bruins.

What are you thoughts? Am I a stick in the mud? Do you think this would happen in DC where there are lots of historical statues/monuments? Or do you love it?
I think it’s pretty funny. When I saw the duck picture yesterday I actually cracked up and showed hubs. Hadn’t seen the other pic till this post. I think the bigger issue would be why is the city wasting money on jerseys for statues because I doubt someone went out of their way to make them special for the ducks or any other statue.
Couldn’t the city find a better way to use that money????? After all we hear about cutbacks and how every city and state are in debt – there is always money for the ridiculous.
Well, well, well!! Isn’t someone a cantankerous curmudgeon from moving!! Go back to unpacking your stamps and have a laugh at the statues. It’s not graffiti and they are already off so, I have no issue. A couple years ago someone put Guy Fawkes masks on all of the statues on the Comm Ave Mall on the 5th of November–hilarious!
Eh, its removable, and its nice to see a city pulling together for something.
When there is so much to be unhappy about, if it gave even one Bostonian a laugh, I think it was worth the effort of whomever dressed them.
I love hockey, but I’m not a Bruins fan, so while it would be nice to have them win after so long, I have to admit I’d like to see the poor Canucks bring one home for the very first time.
: )
How dare a city rally around a central theme, to show support for a common love.
Yes you are a stick in the mud. If you don’t like this kind of stuff you live in the wrong city.
I have no problem that there is a central theme to rally around. But why dress up statues of people with historical political significance? If the celtics were in playoffs and wanted to put a jersey on the Red Auerbach statue at Faneuil Hall I would not have an issue since he was a basket ball player.
It’s too bad you can’t see the joy in this. This state has been hit hard by political problems and rising taxes over the years combined with the loss of Genzyme to a french pharma company named Sanofi Aventis and the resulting layoff of 1600 Genzyme employees; the loss of jobs at Biogen iDEC,Fidelity and many others; and just recently the Tornado in Springfield that has left people homeless. We love our teams here, and our hearts are often on our sleeves for them. They are a great touchstone of the good that is still here. How residents here can bond over something hopeful.
As a hockey fan let me just say this…..every hockey city does this. Every city. Last year, Chicago had Blackhawks jerseys all over the city during the Cup run and after. Just go with it.
Look at it like this: these historic figures, do you think they’d be sports fans? Do you think they’d love the idea of a city, a state? Do you think they’d hate it if people included them in their celebration? Or do you think they’d be at the games, or at least watching them, cheering on the Bs?
Personally, I’d think Revere would’ve loved to ride ahead of the Bruins on their parade route, firing everybody up, yelling ‘the Bruins are coming! The Bruins are coming!’
**Do you think they’d love the idea of a city, a state rallying around their team?**
LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS !! Boston is TITLETOWN! We’ve earned the right to pur our fuckin’ jerseys on anything we want !
I bet you’re fun at parties…. NOT !
