Celebrate your birthday or any day with this fun Spiked Birthday Cake Milkshake.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would feel bad for making a whole blog post to celebrate her birthday when she likes to keep it low key, but I’m #theworst.
She can just deal with it.
So many people leave nasty comments on blogs complaining that bloggers write too much and that readers (internet trolls) just want their (free) recipe and it’s too much effort just to scroll to the bottom of the blog post for the recipe. Or god forbid, hit the “JUMP TO RECIPE” button. But the thing is, blogs are not just about the recipe, it’s about the writer and their voice. It is a blog after all. (I won’t even get into the SEO reasons why bloggers have to actually write something!)
I found Amanda’s blog, Fake Ginger, years ago when I was looking for a Red Velvet recipe and found a great one on Pinch My Salt. At the time, she was organizing the Bread Bakers Apprentice Challenge and I came across Amanda’s blog in the blogroll. I stalked read her blog and then stalked connected with her on Twitter (when Twitter was fun). Since then, it’s been years of chats, drunken msging, crying videos to each other, lots of petty stuff that make us #theworst, and matching tattoos. And imagine, we have only hung with each other 2x. We always threaten my husband that she is just going to show up at our door one day, with her kids and dogs, and then he knows his life will be over. At least he knows and accepts his fate.
Since Amanda is in Texas and I’m in FL, I can’t celebrate with her today, so I made this Spiked Birthday Cake Milkshake in her honor.
We were recently having a FB/snapchat/IG convo (yes, we use all 3 daily to communicate with each other) about birthday cakes so it felt like I needed to celebrate with some cake for her birthday cake. At least that is what I told myself when I tossed some cake in my cart the other day.
You shouldn’t wait for it to be your birthday to enjoyed this Spiked Birthday Cake Milkshake!
I used stor bought (gasp!) funfetti birthday cake with vanilla frosting, but you can use cake with chocolate frosting. I think the vanilla will come out prettier, and less muddy looking, BUT if it’s for your birthday… you better do what you want. So, it that means you want cake with chocolate frosting, then do it with chocolate frosting.
And it’s spiked because you deserve it too! I think all milkshakes should be spiked but that’s a whole different conversation to have as well. Besides that I put 2 shots in the milkshake and my husband asked it was spiked since the Bom Bom Nilla Vanilla is so mellow in that alcohol flavor that it does down really smooth. I might have take a shot while I made the milkshake too.
Cheers to my s’mores loving pineapple tattoo’ed door breaking cardigan hating selfie taking partner in crime!!! Love ya!!!
