Well, we in are the dog days of summer right now. The kids and I are counting down until school starts, trying to fit in all of our fun summer goals. Thankfully, we have accomplished so much in the weeks since school wrapped up. But, it’s amazing how fast summer has flown by.
Since we only have a few more weeks before Autumn goes to kindergarten, we have been working hard on preparing her. We are getting through the last of our workbooks and doing plenty of back to school shopping. Kindergarten means big fun changes for her, so it will be fun and exciting. She is really looking forward to it!
Packing the Perfect Lunch
One of the things that I have been trying to take note of is what Autumn likes to eat for lunch and what I can easily make for her. For the past year, I’ve been making lunch for her, and Hunter, after she got home from VPK (voluntary pre-school). I made everything on demand since it was easy to do then, but now I am figure out how to pack lunches. It sounds silly, but I want to try new, fun things, besides just PBJ, that I can make in advance It’s a classic, but it can get boring fast.
Plus, I don’t want to be running around in the morning making lunches in addition to getting them ready. I’m already so busy telling them to get their shoes on. And, to make sure they are on the right feet. ha!
I started to brainstorm what I can make it advance and it hit me that I can do just about anything. They are great at trying new things, enjoying bold flavors, and eating plenty of healthy things. They would love the things I make reinvented for school lunches. I just need to present it in a fun way and make it extra special.
Rethinking the Average School Lunch
My kids loves Tyson® Crispy Chicken Strips, so I knew that I could make them in advance, the night before, for them to enjoy for lunch. The chicken is perfect for their lunches as they have 100% All-Natural ingredients. Plus, who can resist the new and improved “Now Even Crispier” strips. Love that crunch!
Typically they eat them with ketchup or BBQ sauce, but trying a Homemade Honey Mustard would be so fun. But I knew that the Honey Mustard goes so well with the crunchy chicken strips. It’s nice and mellow, without the traditional kick that mustard has.
Adding some Hillshire Farm® Ultra-Thin Sliced Oven Roasted Turkey Breast is another great way to enjoy the honey mustard. Chicken and turkey both pair so well with the dipping sauce. Rolling up some of the lunch meat makes it easy for little hands to be able to dip it right in.
Hillshire Farm® lunch meats always seem to end up in my cart. I love being able to quickly grab lunch meat while I hustle through the grocery store. Waiting at the deli department is just a waste of time for me when I’m always on the go. Plus, I love how great it tastes and how there are no Artificial Preservatives, Flavors, and Nitrates or Nitrites added.

Making Lunch Fun
Besides making a delicious lunch that my kids will enjoy, I want to make it fun.
Slipping notes into their school lunches is a fun way to give them a sweet pick me up during the day. Using Post-it® Super Sticky Notes is a great way to do that. Doodle a fun picture on them or write a note. It will be a fun surprise for them in their lunch. And you don’t need to worry about it falling off their lunch box into their backpack as they Super Sticky Notes have 2X the sticking power. Think Loud with Post-it® this school year.

What do you need for Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce?
Thankfully, you just need a few ingredients to make an awesome Honey Mustard Sauce. Start with mayonnaise, mustard, and, of course, honey. They are the base to the sauce. The rest of the ingredients pop up the flavor, but those 3 are the shining stars of the sauce. There are so many kinds of mustard out there, so be playful and try different ones. Yellow mustard makes a great, simple sauce; while Dijon mustard gives it a bit more tang. Stone ground mustard gives it a heartier flavor and a great texture.
How do you make Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce?
You’ll love that making Homemade Honey Mustard sauce is so simple. Just combine the ingredients together in a bowl and mix well. If you are making a large batch, I suggest using a food processor to make the process quick and the sauce very smooth.
What do you use Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce on?
My favorite thing to dip into honey mustard is chicken tenders. Pretzels and onion rings are also great with honey mustard sauce.
How long does Honey Mustard Sauce last?
The Honey Mustard sauce will last for 1 week. Store in an air tight container in your refrigerator.
When making Chicken Tenders in advance, how do you store them?
If you want to prepare lunch in advance, make your chicken tenders the night before. Let them cool completely prior to putting the in fridge. Store in an air tight container for 1 day.

Those chicken tenders are my favorite! Especially when dipped in honey mustard!
Love honey mustard !!! Feeling guilty looking at the lunch box you’ve shown with all delicious lunch food items for Autumn’s lunch. Sorry about the years of a sandwich and apple thrown in a brown paper bag for your lunch…….
