Find some inspiration on designing a fun feminine Harry Potter themed bedroom with these decor elements that will create a magical, whimsical room.
I think Autumn is one of the biggest 6 year old Harry Potter fans out there. If she doesn’t mention something HP related at least once an hour, it’s been too long.
When I first suggested Harry Potter, I honestly thought she would bail out after the first night. This was the first big book without pictures! But she became hooked and we just finished the 4th book.
We read a book, then watch a movie as a way to cap off the book. So, we have watching The Goblet of Fire on the to do list for this weekend.
The ultimate plan is to read, then watch, all 7 of the books, then to jump into the Fantastic Beasts books and movies. Then we will take her to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure to celebrate her birthday.
Naturally, I am fostering this interest because I love that she loves the books and Wizarding World so much. I loved reading the series when it first came out, but I am loving it all again. Shoot, I am hoping that Hunter gets hooked too and I reread it all over again with him in the future.
As she has become more and more interested in the Harry Potter series, she has started to request more and more things related to HP from clothes, coloring books, and dolls. The newest focus is changing our her room decor to theme her room around Harry Potter.
The majority of the colors in movies are rather dark and rich, perhaps some would say masculine. But our home is pretty in color so I have been trying to find things that will will create a light, fun, sparkly and feminine room for her.
-A Feminine Harry Potter Themed Bedroom-
We are planning on redoing both kids in the summer so we are in the process of picking out the furniture and decor to make it the perfect Harry Potter themed room. The plan is to incorporate as much of Autumn’s existing furniture and decor elements into her new room as possible. This will help on keeping the cost down so we can focus on spending money on the fun things.
Here are some things that we already have, planning on purchasing, or are considering for Autumn’s room.

The Furniture
Stuva Loft Bed with Shelves and Desk- We are upgrading Autumn’s twin (with trundle) bed to a loft style bed when her current set is passed on to Hunter. We think that the loft bed will be a fun thing for her at this age. I selected this one because it goes with the white dresser we already own. Plus, I really liked that it comes with a desk. She loves to be creative at a small desk she has now, but this will be larger for her, allowing her to have more room to create and work on homework, when she gets older.
Orfjall Child’s Desk Chair- To go with her desk, she will need a desk chair that is perfectly sized for her. She can study at her new desk, just like the kids study in the Library and Gryffindor Tower.
White Hemnes 8 Drawer Dresser- Autumn already has this Hemnes dresser and we will keep it in her room. At this point, I would like to keep it in her room, instead of spending the money on outfitting her walk-in closet with shelves and baskets for her clothes. Eventually we will do that, but I think that will be years from now.
Pink Oversized Anywhere Chair- We gifted this Oversized Anywhere Chair to Autumn 2 Christmases ago. She uses it often and I think that she will use it more and more once she reads on her own more.
Bedding
Platform 9 3/4 Sequin Pillow- This mermaid style sequin pillow was one of Autumn’s gifts from her 6th birthday. It’s so fun! (This Expecto Patronum HP Custom Mermaid Pillow is another fun option too!)
Luna Sentiment Pillowcase- A soft velvet pillow with Luna’s sweet saying “You’re Just as Sane as I am” would be a good addition to the bed.
Mint Damask Quilt and Sham- I basically love all of the Harry Potter collection from Pottery Barn. This quilt is perfect for adding a sweet feminine touch to the room with the light blue color and gold accents.
Jay Franco Harry Potter Whimsical Witch Bed Set- If Autumn decides that she would rather have purple bedding, then this would be a great option. It comes as a complete set with fitting sheet, flat sheet, pillow case, comforter, and sham.
Decor
Gold Star Decals (189 Count)-The Great Hall can feature a beautiful starry night so we can do the same with these Gold star decals. These would make a fun addition to the ceiling or walls.
Pink Globe Lights (30 lights, 20′ feet)- Lights are so magical as well. We have 2 strands that are fun to flick on at night.
Harry Potter “Always” Deathly Hallows Dream Catcher– Autumn has a small dream catcher now, that will need an upgrade for her new room. I love how it incorporates Deathly Hallows and the colors can be customized.
Deathly Hallows Lamp- The Sesame Street lamp that was in my nursery as a kid resides in Autumn’s room now. While it’s great that is has been hanging around for nearly 35 years, she will need a new one. This handcrafted Deathly Hallows one is a great table lamp for some late night reading
Teal Shag Lamp- We have this rug in Autumn’s room now and I think it adds a great pop of color. Keeping it in the room will just be like having her very on Great Lake in room.
Prints
Hermione, McGonagall, Luna Feminist Poster-I am in love with this print!!! It’s a fun watercolorish, graffiti styled print that shows some of the bad ass heroines of Harry Potter.
“Honestly, am I the only person who’s ever bother to read Hogwarts: A History?” Poster- Gotta love Hermione’s Book smarts. She often got the gang out of trouble by being so dedicated to learning.
The Golden Snitch Poster- Harry is a great seeker so that should be highlighted with this beautifully drawn, fine lined Golden Snitch print.
Set of 3 Retro Travel posters- This trio of Retro travel style prints is graphically beautiful. They should be pairs with some travel trunks and vintage suitcases. Big framed prints of these would make a great statement on a wall. (How badly do I wish there was a Diagon Alley print as well!?!?)
“Back to Hogwarts” Print– This is a fun print that highlights things in the books like the Monster Book of Monster, Luna’s glasses, Butterbeer, and the Time Turner necklace.
“What’s Coming Will Come” Watercolor- Hagrid is the best! Bad things will happen but we will face it head on. It’s important that kids learn that at an early age. Plus, it’s just a beautiful watercolor.
Prisoner of Azkaban Poster- While these are not too girly, I think they are great posters that beautifully feature colors from the books which could make a great statement on a wall. Feature your favorite book or purchase all 7 as a complete set and get a free poster!
Owls
Hedwig Owl Mug- This mug would be great to use at night for a drink or to use as a pencil holder on the desk.
Owl Succulent Pots with 3 Tier Bamboo Saucers Stand Holder– A collection of owls just like in the owlery! Plus, it is a fun way to incorporate some greenery into the room.
Felted Owl Ornaments- These handmade flying owls are just so darling. I think they would add a bit of whimsy into the room.
Vintage Owl Vessel – A vintage owl adds some fun with the wide eye design.
Stuffed Animals & Toys
The Noble Collection Fantastic Beasts Niffler Plush- While we haven’t watched the Fantastic Beasts Movies yet, Autumn thinks the Nifflers are super cute. We read about them in Goblet of Fire when Hagrid hid Leprechaun’s gold for them to find in the Care of Magical Creatures Class.
Hogwarts Costume for 18″ Doll- Dress up your American Girl/My Generation Doll to look like a Hogwarts students.
Herminone Granger Doll- For Autumn’s birthday, we gifted her the HArry Potter doll. Soon after, for Christmas, we gave her Ron and Hermonine. They are perfect to display and play with.
Handmade Crocheted Buckbeak- This amigurumi toy is so sweet! We all love buckbeak so he needs to be incorporated into the room in a fun way.
