10 Reasons to go to a Red Sox Spring Training Game- you’ll have a blast enjoying a Sox game while enjoying some fun in the sun!
Nellie’s Free Range Eggs, the official egg of the Boston Red Sox, graciously invited me to attend a Red Sox spring training game. This post is sponsored by Nellie’s Free Range Eggs, but all opinions are mine.
I lived in Boston from August ’03 to February ’16, so I had so much fun watching Red Sox games, attending them, and celebrating their wins. I had some great views of the World Series Championship parades from my office’s windows. When I moved to Boston I wasn’t much of a baseball fan, but when I left for Tampa, I was a big Red Sox fan. It’s in the water up there. You just can’t resist it.
Although I am in Tampa now, I am not far from seeing them play. The Red Sox play in the Grapefruit league, so they play their ‘home’ spring training games in Ft. Meyers, FL. That’s about 2 hours South of Tampa.
Nellie’s Free Range Eggs, recently became the official egg of the Boston Red Sox, as they can power up the players and the fans with healthy eggs. They recently invited me to attend the Red Sox spring training game against the New York Yankees. It was the perfect game to attend! It was the World Series Champ’s first pre-season game (besides the traditional Red Sox vs Northeastern game) against the Yankees!!! PLUS, they beat the Yankees!
-10 Reasons to go to a Red Sox Spring Training Game-
Lots of Things to See and Do!
Watching the game is so much fun, because it’s exciting and filled with thrills, but there is even more to do beyond that. There is an area for kids to test their pitching before the game. It’s fun for kids and for the parents to see them show off their skills.
When we went to the Red Sox Spring Training game, Nellie’s free Range Eggs had a booth set up so that people could play games to win prizes. They also had a pen of happy hens so that you could learn about them and get to pet them too! We got to learn how those yummy eggs are helping to fuel the Red Sox players all the way from spring training in FL to their next World Series win.
New, Small Field!
Fenway Park is the oldest baseball stadium, and one of the smallest. Jet Blue Stadium is a wonderful new stadium that is beautiful designed, has plenty of shade, comfy seats, and so many restrooms (important with kids!). “Fenway South” is a great place to spend the afternoon because everything feels so close, it has a nice intimate feeling with a small crowd.
Plus, the staff there was so friendly. We hopped on a cart by our car to take a quick ride to the stadium, and then we took another to the will call booth. (All walkable but who is gonna turn down a fun ride!?!) Autumn got to steer a bit on the first ride and she just loved all the attention and being able to help out. So fun!
It’s Affordable!
We loved going to Fenway, but could be so expensive. Even Standing Room Only (SRO) tickets could be pricey, but Pre-season games are much more affordable.
Oh man, I really tried to avoid parking in Kenmore Square or Fenway when there was a game. I hated when I had to because parking would be $25+, depending on the game. It wasn’t’ unusual to see lots advertise their parking for $40 during high stakes play off games. So parking on the walk-able lots for just $10 is perfect to me! (Bring cash for this!)
Watch Batting Practice
Get there nice and early to watch the players warm up, toss around the ball, and do batting practice. They typically will toss balls into the stands and sign autographs too.
Wonderful Weather
Weather in Florida is great- lots of warm weather and sunny days. But the summer sun can be HOT HOT HOT!!!! So going in the spring means warm temps without the hot summer sun beating down on you. And, if you happen to attend a game while you are on vacation from the north, it will be a great way to enjoy the ‘hot’ weather, before you go back to the snow.
You still need to be prepared with some sunnies, hats, and some good SPF sun screen. But don’t worry if you forget some sunscreen, they have stations of it around the park.
The Food and Beer!
Hot dogs, Sausages, Lobster Rolls, giant slices of pizza… the food is everywhere and so good. In addition to the food stalls in the stadium, there are several tents set up and food trucks parks around the stadium. So many options, so you better come hungry.
Don’t feel like getting up and waiting in line?!? Well, don’t worry there are plenty of vendors walking around with food and drinks for you to enjoy. (Just bring some cash for this.)
The Ice Cream!
Yes, ice cream is food, but it deserves its own category because it’s the perfect cool treat to enjoy during the game. Kids from 1 to 99 will enjoy an ice cream. It’s so refreshing and it has a great sense of nostalgia to it. How can you resist?!?
Healthy, Relaxed Players!
After having the post season off, the players are relaxed and happy to start playing around. Plus, the newly acquired players are happy to show off their stuff as they find their spots within the team. It’s a great way to see your favorites and who is going to be a new favorite.
Hear a Home Run!
Okay, so you might not get to experience this, but just the chance is worth the excitement. it is so much fun every time you hear a big hit it still is fun every time you hear a ball make contact with the bat, then watch it going deep. This will get you to your feet!!!
Make Some Wonderful Memories!!
You’ll have so much fun with your friends and family! Baseball is America’s favorite
Bonus… Tired Kids!!
If you have kids, I guarantee they will have a wonderful time. All that fun and excitement will tire them out. They might even snooze on the way home. Ah, won’t you just enjoy that quiet car ride home 🙂
