Oh So Stylish: Day 7- KP’s Sketchbook 4

October 23, 2012

I am college tired today. Not college finals tired but still pretty god damn tired. Why so tired? The fashion show work. Blah Blah Blah. Just 2 more nights of work and then it’s time to par-tay. I can’t wait for the show and party on Thursday night. Plus I can’t wait for Friday. Last year I was pretty hungover and tired since I got home around 3am so I learned my lesson and took Friday off. I can’t wait to lounge around, clean up, and scrapbook!!!

This was a layout I created based upon the Day 7 sketch from Kelly Purkey’s Sketchbook Class 4 from Studio Calico. There was a large element on the sketch that was a circle. Dang circles and scrapbooking, they always just create a (fun) challenge. I didn’t have photos that worked well to be trimmed to be a circle. Instead my circular element was a die-cut piece of patterned paper. I figured it would work well, plus it didn’t hurt that it had glitter on it! I then decided on using some pictures that I took of my niece this spring. I brought her a big yellow flower headband and took photos of her wearing it and trying to smell it. ahhh!! From there I dove into my stash and grabbed some stickers, washi, die-cuts, and brads and then whipped it all together.

I just need to wrap up my layouts for Days 10, 11, 12. As much as this was a class hosted this spring I have enjoyed taking on the sketches and creating layouts from it on my time. Almost done. 🙂

Unlock Your Story- Scrapbooking Class

November 14, 2010

I just completed an online scrapbooking class taught by Elizabeth Kartchner. She is one of my favorite scrapbookers and bloggers. This is the second class I have taken from her and I have enjoyed it jsut as much as the first one.

The class was called ” Unlock Your Story” which was focused on scrapbooking about yourself or even a close relationship and REALLY journaling about it. I was drawn to this class because I often find myself scrapbooking about things, and not myself. Additionally, my journaling is basic by just touching on what is happening at that moment and I really wanted to force myself to open up and develop my story, whatever that may be.

I signed up for the class and got the kit (Thanks Mom!) because I love getting to use what the teacher is using as well, maybe not the same way but I love having the same materials. That being said I used the class instructions as a starting point. I always stray from the agenda but always get something that I love in the end. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I didn’t like what Liz was teaching, but I always have that lesson to refer to so I might as well experiment a little bit and see what I come up with. If I don’t like it I can go back to the exact lesson plan, since that was what was really intended.

The thing I loved the most was getting to make paper flowers (shown on the first envelope). I know I will be using this technique in my own future pages. They are so lovely and add a lot of dimension to the page.

I have not done my journaling for the class yet since that was the main focus and I really could not focus on it these past 2 weeks. Plus, I knew that some of the things I would write would be reflective and rather private so I did not want it posted up on the blog. So my next step to wrap this up is to do the rest of the journaling.

If you have the chance to take a class that Liz is offering, jump at it. They are so much fun!

Happy

April 23, 2010

Okay it’s been just about 2 years since I took this photo but I just can’t belive how much that time has flown by. For several years we went to Montauk for a boating rendezvous. This was the last year going there. We always had fun lounging around the boat, going into town for shopping, talking the bartenders into giving me more than the allocated drinks, and then dancing around buzzed off the tequilla sunrises.

I took an online scrapbooking class about using sketches to create layouts. I created this LO based upon one of the class sketches. I like getting to apply what I learn in the classes and use new scrapbooking stuff I just got. I had just received some Stampin’ Up! supplies so those things in the layout, including the cloud paper, shimmer paint, and the star and border punches. I was so excited to get the shimmer paint! I got it in Platinum and Frost White, which would work well for the color pallets I typically use. I used the platinum one for this layout when I painted the chipboard letters for the title and the accent stars (that I cut using my new punch!).

Supplies: Solid and Patterned Papers, punches, shimmer paint, chip board letters are all from Stampin’ Up! and the rub-on is from Martha Stewart Crafts. (All SU! products can be purchased through me.)

A Happy Distraction

March 31, 2010

I’m back into scrapbooking. It really seems like it has been forever. Granted all of my stuff has been out in the living room and office but with the flood drama and our stuff being stacked up on other things I have been in the mind-set to be creative. Instead we just veg on the sofa and watch Mad Men and Weeds DVD’s and various shows on TV, like LOST! Oh can’t get enough of LOST. Anyway, while watching last night Pricer had to deal with pausing it so I could run back and forth from the living room table to the Cricut in the office to cut out letters. Of course , I was not sure what color to use so I did it twice in different colors so it took twice as long. So scrapbooking is becoming a happy distraction from the rest of the crap I’ll dealing with.

The layout above is one that I completed before all the chaos but was too forgetful to bring it in to scan it. I made this to highlight our 5th anniversary (1/2). I took an online class from Kelly Purkey called Beginnings, which really influenced this layout. I typically like things straight horizontally and vertically but I loved her layout so I had to steal it for this.

I focused on color for this layout. Picking the paper from the bold colors on the shirts and then coordinating the blocking paper from that.  I think this layout is missing something. Not sure if it needs something in the center or I just don’t like it now it is done so I can’t let it be. I may revisit it later on. It would not be the first time I redo a page. Or it may grow on me.
