September 20, 2011

I tried candle pin for the first time last night. I sucked at it, but I enjoyed playing in Instagram…

I also got to go to a wedding.

A monday night wedding.

A wedding in a bowling alley.

The first Yelp wedding.

It was amazing, fanastic, beautiful, and fun.

We had a blast.

The Circus is Coming to Towne- Yelp Event Recap

February 25, 2011

On Monday night Price and I went to Yelp Boston’s Elite event. This was the first non Elite only event of the new year, the first event to introduce the new Elite’s to the community. So there was no holding back!

The theme was “The Circus Comes to Towne”. Why TownE? Well it was held at te restaurant called Towne. This is a place I have been dying to get to but have been pushing it off since it’s really out of my price range… hello $25-40+ dinner entrées. Well, the chef owners, Lydia Shire and Jasper White, provided a fantastic venue, as well as the best food I have ever had at a Yelp event. Things ranged from tenderloin, curried cauliflower turnovers, caramel ice cream in pizzelle cookie cones, fried shrimp appetizers, hot dogs with a sweet pepper relish, Peking chicken tacos, and much, much more.

Plus, how can we talk about a Yelp Event without talking booze. I had one of the signature drinks, I believe it was called the bearded lady. They did not have a typical menu of specialty drinks, like usual, so I just had that one. Price, on the other hand, made it his mission to try all of the flavored vodkas that Hanger One supplied. In the end we think he rounded out the night with 8 vodka tonics. Hello Tuesday headache!

And of course, you can’t have a Circus themed event without cotton candy, popcorn and entertainers! I was head over heels in love that they had cotton candy!!! There were entertainers from The Boston Circus Guild that walked on stilts, did acrobatics, and some skillful hula hoop routines. There was also a guy doing magic! Lots of fun everywhere we looked!

Thanks for visiting. Please leave me a comment to provide some feedback. I appreciate all the comments I receive.

Stalled

August 27, 2010

I have been feeling stalled lately. I have lost my motivation for just about anything. Our sofa, the Cos, is my friend. I just spend my nights lounging and watching movies. I try to get motivated but nothing is really grabbing my attention. I tell myself that life would be easier if I just did all the laundry and then actually folded it and put it away instead of leaving it in the dryer/on sofa/in wash baskets. It def would make getting dressed in the morning faster. I tell myself that but I still have not touched the piles that keep getting higher.

It’s those types of things that are falling behind in my life. I have like 6 blog posts started, 8 yelp reviews, a few scrapbooking pages, etc. I have always been a person to start something and not finish it but it has gotten bad this summer. This summer of freedom. The summer of no classes, no portfolios, and no registration. You would think I would love the free time but it is such a weird experience I am having trouble figuring out time management. Saying that is just weird. I have been so good at juggling work, school, homework, and lack of sleep for years that not having that extreme pressure has me completely confused.

The biggest issue is that I am a weekend person. I am a weekend warrior. It is when I catch up on cleaning, laundry, being crafty, shopping, meal prep, etc. With the last few weekends away I have thrown my typical schedule upside down. Dont get me wrong, I love my weekends away but it really wrecks my ‘schedule’.

I’m really hoping that I can regroup this weekend and get out of this rut. So far I have planned…

finish up some blog posts and schedule them to post
finish my yelp drafts and do a few more reviews
3 scrapbooking pages
making marinara sauce (about 18 qts) and canning it
begin the process of purging the office
finish the cube project

we shall see how everything turns out…

 Happy Friday!!!

Tired Feet: our long day in NYC

April 5, 2010

Price and I went into NYC on Saturday to see the Tim Buron exhibit at MOMA, among other things, but sometimes plans are ment to be broken. When we arrived we learned that the event was a timed admittance and sold out while we were in the crazy line to get in the museum. Well we regrouped and walked over to the International Auto Show. We saw the commercial for it the night before and Price’s eyes lit up with glee with the thought of going so it was nice that we did get to do it. I Liked it but I like the boat show more. I really liked the Nissan Cube and we liked the Jeep Liberty and Patriot. Of course we loved some crazy expensive cars but these were practical ones that we liked.

After leaving the auto show we went back east to 5th ave check out some stores by Herald Sq. We grabbed a cab at this point to head down to the East Village because we wanted to check out his restaurant down there. Sadly, in the cab ride down we checked into it and found out the place closed last year. Damn it! (If you are closed put it on your website or shut it down entirely!) But that did not stop us from enjoying the area and some good food.

My trusty Yelp app on my iphone had me pulling up places that I had previously bookmarked to visit. Of course places varied from hot dog stands to ramen and dessert bars. We chose a few places to check out, very good choices in deed. We went over to Pomme Frit on 2nd to try Poutine. I fell in love with Poutine. Makes for a stronger argument to get up to Montreal this summer/fall.

After spending time in the East Village getting food and checking out at street fair by Cooper Union we headed over to the NYU campus and then headed down West Broadway to Ground Zero. It was sad to still see a big pit in the center of all these buildings, sad after so many years. We walked all around the site and checked out the new buildings (7 WTC) and checked out the construction cranes. After looping around the site we headed North and then East to get over to the Brooklyn Bridge.

We walked over the Brooklyn Bridge just to check it out. On the way over to Brooklyn we saw newlywed’s getting their photos taken (In fact we saw them in Grand Central later that night too!) The views of the Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, and the Empire State Building were great.

Once we got over to Brooklyn we flipped a coin and decided to head back to Manhattan for dinner instead of eating over in Brooklyn. So back over the bridge to head into Chinatown.

The return trip over the bridge was really getting to us. It was about 7pm then and we had been in the city since 10.30 or so and had been on our feet for 95% of that time so we were getting tired. So the goal was to get over the bridge and find a place for dinner.

We walked through Chinatown and ended up in Little Italy for dinner. There were guys out there calling us in for dinners so we have plently of choices ahead of us. We picked a place that was close (tired feet), a good menu, and was fairly cheap. We kept dinner light by sharing an appetizer and entree- and a very large glass of wine!

Lastly, we ended up going to Rice to Riches in Nolita (North of Little Italy). I just saw it on The Best Thing I Ever Ate on Foodtv. While it was not the best rice pudding I ever ate it (my dad’s is the best) was still a great place to try. The store was designed beautifully and had really funny sayings applied in bright graphics.

We headed to Grand Central after dessert for the 9.37 train. The train ride back is not long but we were so tired that we fell asleep and missed our stop. We woke up once we heard Greenwich being announced. No idea how both of sleep through them announcing “Po-rt Ches-TA!” Luckily my mom could pick us up… so embarrassing! In the end we figured the passing out was justified since we were basically on our feet from 10.30- 8pm and walked over 12 miles (I figured it out using gmaps) Although our legs were jello and our feet were tired we had such a great day- great weather, great cars, great food, great photos, and now, great memories!

You’re a Mess

March 29, 2010

On Friday night, Price and I went over our friend Jovan’s place for a Sangria party. He has been traveling across the country working on farms for this thesis. He was back briefly so he planned a party for people to catch up with him. It was great to see him and catch up. Plus enjoying some wine and sangria didn’t hurt. I got the typical flush. (Jovi is on the left in the first pic)

I woke on Saturday morning to 26 degree weather… perfect weather for a bike ride, right? The thing is that I hate the cold and I had not been on a bike since high school (like 7 years). So I figured the Yelp Elite sponsored tour through Urban Adventours would be interesting and a bit scary. Well the saying that riding a bike comes back to you is true, but it does not mean you are a pro. Yep, I fell at the very start. My foot slipped off the pedal so I spazed out, and then fell right over on my right side. Skills. I brushed off and did the rest of the ride with a sore ankle, knee, and palm but the extra pain was worth it because our 3 guides from Urban Adventours were amazing. Since I was scared of falling again and having the rest of the group run me over or fall because of me I stuck to the back so I spent the time talking to the end guide. They were so great and taught us a lot about the city. I’ve been here since Sept 2003 but still can learn so much! Like I walk by the birthplace of Benjamin Franklin every time I go to the Milk Street Post Office.

After the bike tour I met Price at the Great Masonic Lodge downtown. They were doing an open house and we heard it would be pretty cool to learn about it and get a tour. The different lodge rooms were unbelievable. We went into one and it was beautiful, the detail in the ceiling, trim, furniture- all stunning. Then off to a more stunning room. The craftsmanship was breathtaking. There was a ceiling that really left you in awe. I loved being there. Plus the tour guide said I asked good questions. Teacher’s Pet 🙂 After the tour we stuck aorund to watch this print maker. We saw his table before the tour but did not have a chance to check it out since I arrived just before a tour started. He was so cool telling us how printing making was used then, how to clean things clean, what the ink was made of, what the poweder did, etc. He even let Price use the press and take home the finished piece 🙂

Saturday afternoon became an extended lounge into nap time. Ahh can’t get enough of nap time. The title of this post is exactly what Price said to me after showing him my swollen right ankle. Plus then I started to get all flushed and had a slight fever which Price summed up casually with something like “Well, it’s probably ’cause you were rode a bike over 10 miles in below freezing temps.” Well, duh.

Sunday was Sunday… get the paper, coupons, cleaning, laundry, food shopping, angry rabbits, NASCAR was rained out. Just the day before Monday.

Yelp+boat= amazing elite event

July 22, 2009

Price left to go back to NY until Sunday night. I was mopey at our lunch together because it is almost a week apart. He quickly corrected me and said only 5 days. True. At least it is not over 2 months like when he was in Biloxi. Things are just not he same when he is not at home. Oh well, I filled up my week with things to do to be distracted. First things first….

YELP ELITE EVENT!!!!!!

Being that I’m super cool and a yelp elite I was able to go on a cruise around Boston harbor. My +1 and I had a good time cruising in Boston Harbor. It was the very first yelp elite cruise event in the history of all yelp event. Sweet. Plus we got some free beverages (makers mark mojito= yum, MGD 64= piss water) and dinner. It is surprisingly amusing to everyone to see plans landing at Logan- lots of cheering and clapping. It’s not like their wheels were going to hit the top of the boat but it was pretty cool so see them RIGHT above us. Reminds me of driving on the Jersey Turnpike next to Newark Airport. Anyway, the best was the sunset.
