Brimfield’s weirdest and finest

July 17, 2011

Yesterday I went to the Brimfield Antiques Show for the third time. I absolutely love it. I love hunting around for the best bargains, most unique finds, and spotting the weirdest things that people are hawking.

I was talking Brimfield up with my coworker so we decided to go together. We each had specific things that we were looking for so there was some hunting for both of us. As usual I looking around for Pyrex and blue ball jars.

Along the way we found some other things to purchase. We both picked up old maps. I got a map of Greece published in 1958 that I will use for scrapbooking and a map of North America published in 1964. I’m not particularly sure what I will use that for but I could not pass it up. Grabbed them for 2 for $5.

Olena picked up a map to frame and she hit up some jewelry booths. Her mission critical item was a book to modify to use as an album for her recent trip to Iceland. Her prefect find cost under $5. Big wins all around.

I highly suggest that everyone checks out Brimfield at least once. It’s a lot of fun, plus where else can you see this??

PS. I saw Diane Keaton there. She is stunning. I tired to give Olena a ‘look over there eyes’ only to realize I was wearing sunglasses, which I hardly ever do. I fail.

I previously documented my Brimfield trips… check out my 2009 and 2010 finds.

TTYL

July 17, 2011

I can’t bleeive I have gone almost a whole week without blogging. This might have been one of my driest blogging spells since I started blogging.

It was an off week for me. From work deadline, a little crying breakdown midweek, and witnessing the end of an era (HP!), I’ve had my hands full with stressful and enjoyable things.

I planned on posting a scrapbooking post on Friday since it has been weeks but when I got home to do it I realized that I had not changed the scanner settings at work and when I scanned my page it was black and white. no bueno.

So, I’ll be back soon with real content. TTYL

Champs

June 17, 2011

Well they pulled it off. the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. We were at The Rattlesnake for a going away party, appropriately named “Good Bye Mass-Holes!”, for our friends who are moving back to Texas. Price, Emily and I arrived around 7.45 and didn’t leave until just after 11.30. We were having a fun time with friends and watching the game.

I was hoping for the parade to be on Friday since it goes past my office and I have seen Red Sox and Celtics parades before. Unfortunately, for me, it’s Saturday, so I’ll just have to see the coverage later on.

B-lieve!

June 15, 2011

Let’s go Bruins!

Game 7 is tonight. Let’s hope that the Bruins kick some Canuck ass. I’ll be out celebrating Bonus Day from 5-7 with coworkers and then heading to The Rattlesnake for a good-bye party for our friends Jason and Natalie. I’m sure both settings will be a buzz about the Bruins. I’m ready to sit there in amusement watching people scream at TV’s.

Raise you hand if you think I’ll be at work hungover tomorrow? <raises own hand!>

NKOTBSB @ Fenway {2}

June 14, 2011

It was a packed house for the NKOTBSB concert!

As Amanda noted, “I don’t think Fenway park has seen so many vaginas at one time.” I woud have to agree. you think restroom lines are bad at a Sox game. Ha! these lines were 100+ ladies deep.

I created this medley of little spinets of video I took during the NKOTBSB show at Fenway this past weekend. I love getting to hear bits of the both bands at once.

This photo is specifically for Amanda!

And this photo is for me!

Check out the guys wearing Bruins jersey’s since the Bruins are playing in the Stanley Cup. (Go Bruins!) A check wardrobe change, and NKOTB put on Celtics jersey’s and BSB put on Orlando Magic jersey’s to represent each hometown.

Backstreet Boys played Everybody for their encore. Classic. Check out the video below.

In middle school I used to go over my best friend’s house and we would watch their concert DVD’s while doing homework. Often the DVD’s have instructions on how to do some of their dances, including Everybody. We might have tried the dance, might have…

The NKOTB did their encore on the Green Monster. BSB then joined them to do a mash up of their hits, similar to their one they did at the AMA awards when they first announced their collaboration and upcoming tour.

They were selling shirts that said ‘Once in a Lifetime’ about having them play together at Fenway. As much as I enjoyed the shirt I decided to save my $40 and just rely on my memories, photos, and videos. Obviously, I will be scrapbooking this!

It’s been crazy out there!

June 10, 2011

The past 2 weeks of weather have been crazy for us in MA.

on 6.1.11 a huge series of storms passed through in the early evening. The storms caused 3 tornado that hit central MA along the CT border. Springfield, Brimfield, and Monson were 3 towns that were badly hit. The images of homes swept away are heart breaking.

When the storms hit the Boston area the cell was less intense but still put a on a huge show, even hitting the Prudential Tower. Price and I been out to dinner celebrating our move that day and then did a quick stop at The Container Store. When we came out wind picked up and the sky was continuously lighting up.

AND THEN…

There was a storm last night too. Thankfully it was not as strong as the previous week’s storm but it still was impressive to see and hear

George Washington must be rolling over in his grave

June 2, 2011

I don’t get it.

I just go get it why Boston officials allowed Bruins jerseys to be put on statues in Boston. Who thought it was okay to cover up a statue of George Washington or Paul Revere? The men did great things to help our country gain it’s freedom. They have had statues built in their honor and we show them disrespect like this?

The George Washington statue on the Public Garden also sported a Bruins shirt. The George Washington statue on the Public Garden was one of the decorated statues in Boston.

Yes, I admit that I could not care less about the Stanely Cup. I only went to my first hockey game a few months ago. However, regardless of the fact that I don’t care about hockey, I still think it’s wrong. They did the same thing to the Make Way for Ducklings statues on the common, which I don’t have an issue with. The are based on a children’s book and little kids sit on the ducks, so clearly not the same significance as statues of historic figures. Clearly this little girl loves it.

Two-year-old Chloe Schouela, of Newton, cheered on the decorated Make Way For Ducklings statues in Boston. Each duckling had a Bruins cape with its name on the back.

Maybe I’ll just be viewed as a downer about it but I think there are other ways of Boston to show it’s pride and support for the Bruins.

*photos pulled from Boston.com

What are you thoughts? Am I a stick in the mud? Do you think this would happen in DC where there are lots of historical statues/monuments? Or do you love it?

8am

May 29, 2011

-view from the front door-

I had been counting down until 8am this morning ever since our new landlord told us the previous tenants would be moving out on Saturday and we could meet him to get the keys. Price and I got up around 6.30, packed the car with cleaning supplies and some stuff to bring over, grabbed breakfast at Starbucks, and drove the 6.2 miles over to the new place.

-the living room-

-view from the windows in the living room-

We are beyond excited about the windows… 7 total. It’s like coming out of the murky water and evolving to have legs- such a major change!

-walking into the kitchen-

-the ugly red wall that we will paint with chalkboard paint-

We have 3 large closets. PLUS a HUGE storage locker in the basement. We didn’t see the locker prior to today so when we saw it I did a little jump since it was so much bigger than we anticipated.

– the bedroom-

-another view of the bedroom-

I’m so excited about having a real oven and stove. A GAS stove!!! Going from an electric flat cook top and a combo microwave/convection oven.

-err this is the size of the closet price and I will SHARE, oh crap-

Our new landlord said we could paint. We already have some Martha Stewart paint colors in mind. Mimosa, maybe?! We are going to have a chalkboard wall in the kitchen. Debating on making it magnetic. (Thoughts?)

– the linen closet-

We are really optimistic about settling into this place for 2 years, at least. It seems like we can really make it work and seem like home. But first I have a lot of cleaning to do. I already did A LOT of cleaning. I had tweeted that our apartment smelled “pin-solriffic” holy crap the floor was filthy! We knew the previous tenants had 2 cats so we would have to do a lot of cleaning since Price is really allergic. BUT when I met our new neighbors and chatted them up I found out the had a dog too. I guess the combo of those 3 animals in a 1 bedroom would result in that STINK and the hairballs that I vacuumed up from under the radiator.

-El baño-

Right now I am crashing. Crashing into bed since it’s been a long day of cleaning, moving boxes from the carload that PRice brought and a trip to Providence for a friend’s son’s Full Moon party. Bed is so inviting right now. ‘Night.

-bring nail polish with you so you can identify keys-

Nesting

May 3, 2011

Price and I were back in his hometown over the weekend to celebrate his Mom’s birthday. His family came over on Saturday to have a BBQ. We first set up the in the front of the house, which allowed the kids to play on the lawn and ride their bikes. Typically we would head out on the back porch to eat but we stayed inside to give this little lady some peace and quite.

This dove has set up her nest in a tree right off the back porch. Elaine has some beautifully weathered window panes hanging off the porch roof, which creates a barrier between the tree and the porch. So she didn’t mind me taking a few photos of her but I was quite and zoomed in a much as I could to keep my distance.

Hopefully she is enjoying the warm weather and appreciated that we respected her needs and let her and her eggs be.

Happy Mail #1

March 5, 2011

This post is long over do.

After getting paired with the lovely Erica for the Strumpets Crumpets Ornament Swap I thought it would be fun for us to send each other some packages back and forth. This would be a way for us to create some fun things for each other, pick up quirky things we see in shops, send each other candy, and do whatever we want. Plus, it’s always fun to receive mail!

Well Erica sent my first package weeks ago and I’m jsut getting around to it. I’ve had a really rough past couple of weeks. Everywhere I turned things were falling apart. I had to face things head on and get through it. So now that thigns are getting better and I am not in manic mode I am sharing what this fun package included.

Erin sent me cheery mugs, a Toblerone bar, a grown your own little ducky, some alpha letters and textured tape for scrapbooking.  The mugs are so cute with mushrooms on them. She said that she thrifted them, too! It was so fun to come home to a box on he porch and then to take the time to unwrap everything.

I’m wrapping up my package goodies and a package will be in the mail heading to Erica this week!
