Oh, another storm

January 27, 2011

I’m getting really sick of this snowy winter. Yes, Boston did not see snow until late in the season, but that just means the 60.3 inches we have recieved so far has come upon use quickly. Storm after storm, week after week.  Sure, we have not yet come close to the record, but it’s the frequency of the snow storms that is getting to me. There is little melting between storms so there is no where for the snow to go at this point!

This is what we woke up to today…

I’m sick and tired of it!

Sweet 16(+10)

January 19, 2011

Yesterday was my 26th birthday. It started off pretty rough since I fell in the drive way on the ice, but things started to get better once I got to work. Surprising, no? Well I was greeted with 2 sweet treats from one of my bosses, Julie. She actually was traveling but made them the night before and my studio director presented them to me. It was so thoughtful since they both were personalized and she tried a new recipe for me. I loved it since it was loaded with almonds, which I love. And another great thing… no singing!!!! I escaped the thing that I (in recent years ) have been hating so much… the all eyes on you mumbled singing. Score! It made having cake for breakfast so much better.

And then my over the partition co-worker, Mai, made cupcakes for my birthday too. Not just your run of the mill birthday cupcakes but… Guinness Bacon Chocolate cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting. Holy Crap they were amazing!!

My day was also brightened when my Mom sent me tulips at work. They are stunning and bright. They are definitely helping me get out of the winter blues whenever I look at them. Plus, my flipcam accessories arrived from my Dad. Very excited about that so I can continue to document life without having to worry about batteries.

Every year Price and I make pizza on my birthday but I was in a pissy mood for thinking I messed up the dough, so we decided to get our favorite pizza instead. This would be perfect…keep this pizza theme alive and have a pizza we had not had in ages, but the place was closed! It is under new ownership and, I’m assuming, their idea of running a place involves having a closed restaurant when people want to eat. Genius! What place in a city closes at 9pm? What pizza place anywhere closes at 9pm? So after some quiet thinking/angry time in the car, we headed over for some sushi, for me just to change my mind and get falafel instead.

This birthday had it’s ups and downs, but I got through. Onward and upward.

SnowLoko

December 27, 2010

The Blizzard of 2010.. aka SnowLoko (at least that is what it was referred to on Twitter)

Sunday night before going to bed

Snowed in on Monday morning

The wind made for some weird snow drifts, some higher than my knee and other low spots, like this. Luckily a low spot was in the drive way so we got out pretty easily to return Price’s rental car for 7am.

Out on Brighton Ave in Alston at 7am, Heading into work at 8.30am

Tattoo #3

December 23, 2010

This is what I did today on my day off.

I’ve wanted a mermaid tail tattoo on my foot for over a year now. I love mermaids. I have some mermaid prints from Amy Brown and David Delamare in the bathroom but I am not about to get crazy and add chotchkies in our place. I draw the line somewhere and that somewhere is my right foot.

I went to Good Faith Tattoo for my 3rd tattoo. I met with Ben Sacks and went though the inspiration that I brought in. I also explained that I wanted a mermaid tail to wrap over the top of my foot with the starting point at my right ankle. He got to work and did 4 sketches to get it perfect. He took his time making subtle changes to each sketch to get he stencil to be right for the contours of my foot.

Now when someone tells you that getting a tattoo done on your foot hurts, they are not lying. The guys there warned me and I knew it would hurt since your foot has less fat on it for padding. I took 2 breaks, one when Price came in to say hi and see it on his way home from work and another after Ben did all the blue work (more on that later). One of the guys there said that his foot tattoo (of a rat) hurt badly. Now I’m gonna believe him because he had the nicest blue eyes and several neck tattoos. I’d think a neck tattoo would hurt more than your foot, but I’m not about to argue with the man.

I love the coloring that Ben did. I went through the portfolio books and saw a koi fish that had similar colors and loved it. But let me tell you, blue ink is a bitch. First getting a tattoo on you foot hurts but blue ink is ‘sticky’ so Ben had to keep wiping my foot because I began to look like a Navi. And I could not figure out what hurt more, the tattooing or the (gently) wiping off with a wet paper towel. Sooo sensitive!

I love it and need to let it heel now. I’m relaxing with my foot up now to give it a much needed break. And I’m watching sooo much Glee, making the night even better.

Holiday Party 2010

December 21, 2010

Last Thusrday night, my office had our holiday party get together. We headed over to Cambridge to go to the Blue Room. We had a private room to ourselves that featured the lovely Burt Reynolds all over the walls. It was hilarious.

Before the food was attacked and devored I took a few pictures. Boy, let me tell you, the passed hors d’oeuvres were fantastic. I can’t decide what I liked more… the spicy shrimp wontons with chili + soy dipping sauce or the tuna tartare on sesame crisps (pictured). The hors d’oeuvres also included 2 kinds of wood grilled pizza, a plate of roasted vegetables, and an amazing cheese plate.

The servers were on top of things, esp topping off our drinks. As in the case of Price telling a co-worker…”This is my first glass of champagne… I’ve just had it refilled 6 times” (wink wink).

It was a fantastic night. The best part was that I was able to go since a project I am working on had a BIG presentation on Friday. So happy to get out of the office on time and have a great presentation the next day. Perfect way to wrap up a hectic week.

**If the guy in the left picture looks familiar it’s because he was on Season 2 of HGTV’s Design Star. Tom was up from our NY office working on some projects so he came out to celebrate with the Boston Office. **

From 1/2 way around the world

November 24, 2010

Our rabbits are veggie eating machines so Price and I make countless trips to Haymarket and our local (affordable!) Asian food market for veggies. The rabbits love bok choy and cilantro, so we end up going to Super 88 often. Aside from veggies, Price and I get little treat every time we go. Things range from mochi cakes to chocolate filled koala things.

These were our goodies from tonight…

Pumpkin Pocky… perfect for the autumn season.

Ritz Cracker Sandwiching Custards…. umm genius! Salty and sweet- the perfect snack combination.

Now I need to stop looking up other Japanese/Chinese snacks and go to bed so I get up for Thanksgiving!

Architecture is Masochistic

October 27, 2010

This is funny, and yet so sad. It’s sad because it is true. My friend Emily sent this to me since we can really relate to this. All of it except the coke part. But for anyone who is interested in the field of architecture, listen up!

Not Ready for Monday

October 24, 2010

I’m not ready for Monday’s arrival tomorrow.

I had a fantastic weekend in upstate New York. We drove around the Finger Lakes Region trying a lot of wine, seeing cows, hanging out with Price’s family, playing with his nephews. Can’t go wrong there. So being cooped up tomorrow is going to drive me mad! At least I have great photos to develop and my scrapbook to finish.

Hope you had a great weekend as well.

A strange gift

October 13, 2010

Co-workers of mine are often sending around links to different Ted Talks. While I was watching one on design I saw a link of this video.

I think that this was an interesting video (minus the long ad at the end). An interesting perspective.

I shared this with my mom, who survived this gift, just in a different form. I had a feeling that she could relate. I know she looks at things differently, I imagine I would too. While Stacey says she ‘wouldn’t change her experience’ because it made her outlook positively change, I have a feeling that a lot of people would rather not have this gift, but just learn to embrace life differently. But then again, I have not been so gifted.

Anyone else who has had this gift, or something like it, have an opinion on this video? Can you relate to Stacey? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
