snow

Oh Hey, Snow!

February 5, 2016

Oh Hey Snow

It’s snowing today in Boston.

I love/hate it. I think it’s wonderful but such a mess at the same time. It’s 2007 Britney.

We are currently predicted to get between 5-8″ of snow. Not too shabby.

Oh Hey Snow_01

After last year’s record setting snow fall I’m glad this winter had been pretty easy on us.

With 9 days left in Boston I can’t complain. I’ll take what snow comes our way. I will miss it to some degree, but I don’t miss having to clear off the car or shovel.

Oh Hey Snow_02 Oh Hey Snow_03

In fact, I really hate cleaning off the car, I have a “funny” story  about snow and my soft-top Jeep Wrangler from when I was in high school. My mom was out cleaning off her car after it had snowed and was lecturing me that I needed to properly clean off my car before going to school while I sat inside it as it warmed off. I said “nah, look at this. I do this all the time.” I turned around grabbed a gym shoe in the back and tossed it against the back plastic to knock off the snow. “See, it knocks it off!” I grabbed the other shoe, tossed it back there again and my shoe sailed right through ripping the plastic. WTF!?!?!?! I guess the cold, rigid plastic had had enough of shoes bouncing off of it and RIP!!!!!

Needless to say I was in trouble and really cold in my car that day. Lesson learned, don’t through shoes at your Jeep Wrangler’s windows.

Oh Hey Snow_04

Anyway, I snapped these photos on my birthday, Jan 18th, as it snowed a bit that morning. Autumn gave it 10 minutes outside before calling it enough. Or maybe, that was me. Doesn’t matter really…

Hello Juno

February 1, 2015

2015 Blizzard Juno

Juno might have slighted the New York area but it hit us hard in Boston.

We ended up with 24.6 inches, making it the 6th biggest storm in Boston’s recorded history. It actually dumped 36″ in Framingham, about 20 miles away from where we live. It was all awesome and annoying at the same time.

It shut down the city, including the MBTA, on Tuesday as there were blizzard conditions throughout most of the day. So we were all home on Tuesday as the snow swirled all around.

As the snow eased up in the afternoon we all went out to check out the snow.

Autumn hated her snow suit but she loved being outside so the moment we went outside she stopped screaming bloody murder. And started again the moment we crossed the threshold again. Our babe just loves to be outside at all times.

Her long beautiful eye lashes caught falling snow flakes.

Poor Price spent over 8 hours between Tuesday, Wednesday morning and night outside with the snow-blower cleaning up the driveway, walkway, and stairs. The piles are taller than me in some areas.

And while Price busted his butt out there for hours and hours we stayed cozy inside making cookies. I really do think that I have perfected my chocolate chip cookie recipe at this point. yay!

She stole my pen. He stole her blanket and chair.

Price took these pictures of our street on Tuesday night once the wind lessened and rate of snow coming down slowed down. More people felt brave enough to come out of their houses to start digging out.

Blizzard 2013: Nemo

February 10, 2013

snow snow snow and some more snow. That is what the blizzard named Nemo dumped on the northeast this Friday and Saturday. It was the 5th largest snow storm in Boston’s recorded history dumping 24.9 inches of snow at Logan Airport.

What does that snow look like?

Pricer took these pictures at 2.30pm on Friday afternoon

Which still had a lot of snow in front of it.

Kemper was not too thrilled by the snow since he coudn’t get to the yard where he has been going to the bathroom. (Sure to take a back step in house-training him. Oh well, just gotta deal with it)

Sunday:

We spent some time shoveling more snow to the car could get out of the driveway now. We did have Kemper out with us for a bit and I got home pictures of him running on our front walkway. SQUEE!!!

Oh, another storm

January 27, 2011

I’m getting really sick of this snowy winter. Yes, Boston did not see snow until late in the season, but that just means the 60.3 inches we have recieved so far has come upon use quickly. Storm after storm, week after week.  Sure, we have not yet come close to the record, but it’s the frequency of the snow storms that is getting to me. There is little melting between storms so there is no where for the snow to go at this point!

This is what we woke up to today…

I’m sick and tired of it!

Thanks for visiting. Please leave me a comment to provide some feedback. I appreciate all the comments I receive.

SnowLoko

December 27, 2010

The Blizzard of 2010.. aka SnowLoko (at least that is what it was referred to on Twitter)

Sunday night before going to bed

Snowed in on Monday morning

The wind made for some weird snow drifts, some higher than my knee and other low spots, like this. Luckily a low spot was in the drive way so we got out pretty easily to return Price’s rental car for 7am.

Out on Brighton Ave in Alston at 7am, Heading into work at 8.30am

Snowman Cupcakes

December 24, 2010

I have not been the holiday mood this year. We don’t even have a tree. We just have a simple advent calendar I made but it keeps falling down. Go figure. The only ornaments I have up are at my office on my cube. (I do love looking that them all day- Thanks Erin!)

So I have been a bit Grinchy lately and I decided that I had to get out of this by making something fun. What’s better than cupcakes? Cupcakes topped with snowmen! I’m not a big fan of the cucpakes that are filed high with frosting so I decided to use marshmallows for the snowmen. And I’d use chocolate covered pretzels as twiggy arms. hehe

So began my baking at 5.45am on Wed morning. I prepped the night before but I did not feel like baking then so I just decided to make them in the morning. I made a chocolate cupcake with an eggnog frosting. The chocolate was the frozen ground, frosting was the fresh snow where the happy snowmen sat.

These little guys were well received in my office. We were totally maxed out on sweets with a lot of furniture vendors giving us brownies, cookies, candy, cake, and pie, but some people made room for them or brought them home to their kids.

Snowmen Cupcakes

recipe makes 24 cupcakes

Chocolate Cupcake

1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa power
3/4 cup of coffee
1/2 cup of cold milk
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 /2 teaspoon salt
2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 1/2 cups of sugar
3 large eggs
6 ounces of unsweetened chocolate, melted.

Preheat oven to 350. Line 2 12-cup cupcake pans with liners.

Combine the first 4 ingredients together in a small bowl, set side.

Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt together, set aside.

Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar together until creamy.

Add the eggs to the butter/sugar mixture one at a time. Beat in the melted chocolate, mix thoroughly.

Add in the dry ingredients in thirds, alternating with the liquid ingredients.

Mix all until thoroughly combined. Divide the batter evenly into the 24 cupcake liners.

Bake 16-20 minutes, or until a toothpick is cleanly removed.

Once the cupcakes have cooled frost them and decorate.

Eggnog Frosting

2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup eggnog
approximately 1 1/2 pounds of confectioners sugar

With a mixer, beat the butter until it is light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla  extract and continue to beat it.

Add in 1/2 the eggnog and then add in small batches of confectioners sugar. As the frosting begins to combine, add in the rest of the eggnog and then add enough sugar to reach the desired consistency.

Snowmen

12 10″ skewers, cut in half
72 marshmallows (2 packages)
Black and Orange- foodoodlers, gel icing, or markers
24 chocolate covered pretzels (1 package of Flipz is enough)

Using a scissor, cut all dowels in half to get 24 “spines” for the snowmen.

Put 3 marshmallows on each skewer. Do not pierce the end of the top marshmallow since it is the head.

Draw face on top marshmallow.

Cut 2 pretzel arms from each pretzel. Using a paring knife or scissor, cut 2 deep slits on each side of the middle marshmallow. Insert each arm into knife slit, marshmallow will “self heel” around pretzel arm.

Insert 1 snowman into each cupcake.

**If you don’t have edible food markers (aka foodoodlers), or forget your stuff at home like me, just use a marker and warn people about the top marshmallow.**

The Blizzard That Wasn’t

February 11, 2010

Lots of snow. A blizzard of snow. School closed all around Boston (about 18 hours ahead of time). Plows were at the ready. People stayed home from work. Drivers took public transportation so they would not get stuck later in the horrible conditions.

the only problem…

NO SNOW

Boston ended up with about an inch of snow. Seriously.

The Cape got more but the point for me is where I live… no snow!!!!!

I think I need to change proffessions. If we make a mistake there are seriously things to account for and fix. But a weather(wo)man can be off about a 1′ of snow and no sweat, things changed. Their warns can close the publis school system ( I wish I had that power) and if they are wrong they just say “Oh the snow storm got to big it started to get warm. So, no snow.”

Pictures of the “Snow” when I left my office late last night.

Snow Bunnies!!

January 3, 2010

This past 4 day weekend has been great with New Year Eve Day off to relax, a mellow Wii filled New Years Eve, sleeping in, great TV, lots of cooking (including some new recipes), snow, and naps.

One of the most exciting things was getting to paint my nails. To most this sounds like nothing to be excited about but in architecture school nails get destroyed quickly. I still have burns on my fingers from run ins with the hot glue gun. That sticky, hot bastard!

Pricer waiting for the T on our way for dinner. It was snowing and windy and waiting any longer would have made us late so we cabbed it down there.

Most importantly Price and I celebrated our 5 year aniversary on Saturday by going out to dinner at Teatro in Boston. It’s hard to believe that its already been 5 years. Time flies when you’re having fun 🙂

On Saturday I took the rabbits out while Price shoveled the snow. It was the first time they had ever been in the snow!!!  They are just so damn cute!!!!

Jack did not really enjoy the snow as much as Bunny. He was curious but he is generally mellow (unless he knows he is getting raisins) so he just hung out, a bit unimpressed.

Bunny loved the snow. She was running around, well hopping around, and digging in the snow.
