Ms. HH: Day 6- KP’s Sketchbook 4

October 17, 2012

{Day 6}

So I have this habit of getting too busy with too many things to do… traveling, blogging, participating in creating costumes in next week’s  IIDA fashion show, starting to volunteer as a mentor for HS students, doing laundry and dishes, etc. What falls to the side? My crafty adventures that I love. Since there are only so many hours in the day, and while my crafts are a priority, I typically end up cutting that out. It blows. I wish it could just figure out how to juggle it all.

Well, this all has been bothering me so I got up early this morning and finished a scrapbooking layout that has been sitting in a pile of partially finished layouts for months. That pile was a very sad sight every time I go in to feed and play with the rabbits.

Pretty simple layout with a patterned background page and some layered embellishments. Once I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to use pockets that I had  from some Studio Calico kits to hold journaling cards. From there I dug through more of my past kit elements and used an envelope instead of using a piece of cardstock or paper to layer upon. I added some brads, gems, washi, stickers, and alph’s. ta-da!

Just a few more sketches left to finish up the Kelly Purkey’s Sketch Book 4 class that I took this spring… spring. ugh! I am determined to do them all, eventually! Once the fashion show is over next week (wish us luck!), I’m hoping to carve out some time to be crafty more regularly. Gotta get back to scrapbooking layouts and Project Life. Stay tuned!

Big Ballin’ LO: Day 5- KP’s Sketchbook 4

August 8, 2012

{Day 5}

Well, finally! I’m finally posting scrapbooking posts again and more diligently working scrapbooking- specifially project life. I got up this morning about 45 min earlier than I had to be able to give the buns to extra love and attention as well as work on PL. It was nice to carve out a bit of me time to scrapbook. I often don’t get to do that at night as I get busy making dinner, laundry, and vegging out with a glass of wine. Totally ADD attack at night.

So here is my take on Day 5 from Kelly Purkey’s Sketchbook 4 class that I took eariler this year. I seriously loved the intial sketch since here are so many ways it can used as a spring board for layouts. I did keep it pretty basic and allowed the pretty papers to do all the work for me. Plus, a few brads for embellishments for good measure! 🙂

A scrapbooking catch up

August 1, 2012

One of the biggest things that has been bothering me lately is my lack of scrapbooking, which has resulted in a drought in scrapbooking posts. I don’t feel like myself if I am not fiddling with paper. I was telling Kita that this weekend when we met at Big Summer Potluck when we discussing our hobbies. She was saying that she was itching to get back on her mountain bike after a day off on Friday & Saturday. At least last week I did quickly make the two of us little scrapbooks. But I have not been working on layouts. Sure, I’ve been slowly continually working on Project Life but not enough on dedicated to completing the weeks so nothing to post on here. I guess I just need to carve out some time to get creative, but it is so hard when we are always busy/away on the weekends and then playing catch during the week. #firstworldproblems

I love sharing what I make so I decided I needed to buckle down and finish some posts that have been in the ‘almost done’ pile. I had to wrap up my journaling or do some little finishing touches to these layouts and it feels good to get them done and slide those layouts in my albums.

First Game– ugh these are old pictures. Look how short my hair is! I created this in response to a Studio Calico Sunday Sketch but since this has been in the ‘almost done’ pile for so long I have no idea what sketch it was!

I Love You This Much– I really liked doing this layout. It was fun to link winter : knit accessories : thread & sewing. I just wish I picked a darker thread or a shimmery one for the ornaments since that thread there gets lost against the patterned paper. I made the ornaments from circle stickers and then I put washi on them.

The Big Move– A simple double page layout. Also really old photos since these are from our move last year. I love simple pages like this with lots of alignment and plenty of photos. Nothing too special going on here but it is just nice to have our move documented.

1,2,3 Dance LO: Day 9- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 26, 2012

{Day 9}

This might just be my favorite layout I have made in a while. I loved getting to pull out all different random pieces to work with this sketch. I have tons and tons of fun embellishments but I don’t use a lot on my pages for some reason. I have to shake that habit since it was a lot of fun to pull out all these brads, tags, stickers, and clips. It seems like I did a little bit of everything on this layout (except washi tape.. crazy!) , and I’m okay with that. I have the stuff… I should use it!

The biggest shocker to me was using such a dark solid piece of cardstock for the base of my layout. Softening up the color and adding some ‘pizzazz’ with the Mister Huey’s Opaque White really transformed it. I am getting hooked on Mister Huey’s… umm hello… I used it on all of these recent layouts that I have posted.

Little Boys Jump LO: Day 8- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 25, 2012

{Day 8}

So I am skipping ahead in posting my Sketchbook 4 layouts. I have them done, but I just forgot to bring them into work to scan them so I’m just going to post this one and then go back for the rest starting tomorrow.

I could def see myself using this sketch again as it allows me to use a lot of photos on a layout. I was happy I put 10 (!!) photos of Price’s nephews playing around last summer. (They are just so adorable!) I liked the linear look to the sketch as well. I was tempted to put the strips on an angle but I figured I would let all the ‘movement’ come from the jumping in the photos. Expect to see  layouts like this pop up again the future!

My Instagram Birthday LO: Day 4- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 23, 2012

{Day 4}

I’ve been struggling with printing photos lately. In fact, I created this layout a good week before adding the photos in. I’ve been doing that a lot lately. Blocking in place holders so I can keep working and when I have the time to crop, edit, and print photos I just slap them on the layout.

I had no idea what to do with the sketch when I first saw it. The circles and circular design had me scratching my head. I knew that circles would not work for me so I decided to focus more on the overall layout and keep going. So I pulled out some big stamps I had just gotten decided they would represent the circles in the original sketch. I used the stamp as a frame for each of the photos I would use. Since it was basically a square image I decided to use square photos and the first thing that came to mind was using Instagram photos. Whala!!! I just didn’t feel like doing any journaling. I wanted the photos to tell the story vs having text do it.

‘Perfect Imperfection’ LO: Day 3- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 11, 2012

{Day 3}

So I ALWAYS have a stack of photos printed on hand for scrapbooking. I like having the opportunity to scrapbook if I have a moment. I don’t want to be held back jsut because I don’t have any photos on hand. In the case with this sketch, I just dug through my pile and pulled out this photo to use.

This is such a horrible photo to scrapbook, but I loved it anyway. It was from my Dad’s birthday last August and I liked that it captured a fun moment of his laughing and telling a story. I focused on the fact that it was an imperfect photo so that was the theme I went with for the layout. I basically turned all the patterned pages so they were not aligned. I then made the title and the journaling on an angle as well. Def out of my comfort zone but that is the point of this class- try something fun and new with the sketches.

Relax LO: Day 2- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 9, 2012

{Day 2}

This layout took FOREVER!!! It made me remember why I don’t sew on layouts. But… at the same time it made me wish I did it more often. I like the final outcome of the handmade look of it. I think I will have to try it more often… maybe not just so much!

I really enjoyed this because I don’t typically use circles in layouts. I have tons of circle punches but I never seem to grab them. In this case I created a 1″x1″ grid on the backside of my paper, then I centered a 1/2″ circle on each point, and then outlined each circle. That gave me my guide for where to sew and the pattern to create. I then created each design using  different color threads. Pretty simple but effective.

Project Life 2012: Weeks 9 + 10

April 6, 2012

So Project Life has taken a bit of a back seat to REAL LIFE. Things have been so hectic since we put an offer on a place on the 25th. It was countered and we accepted that and then things started to get a little crazy. We had our inspection on Tuesday the 27th, the appriasal was on the 30th, and we signed the P&S documents last night. crazy!!!

I enjoyed this past week since I was able to play around with Project Life a bit more. I’ve been relishing the fact that I got to trim fun paper, not filling out papers with our info. Slipping photos and paper into the page protector pockets… pure bliss. I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I fill a pocket.

So real life is taking us to CT this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing family and having more fun things to add to Project Life!!

You Make Me Smile LO: Day 1- KP’s Sketchbook 4

April 3, 2012

{Day 1}

As with all of Kelly Purkey’s classes I have taken, I am having a blast! Yes, it’s just Day 1 so the class is just starting but I’m already in the grove! Ha! I was so eager to get stated once I saw the PDF. Once I saw the sketch I knew which photos I wanted to use since we just took a bunch this past weekend.

Instead is using 3 photos that was in the original sketch I used 2, but the basic structure of the layout is based upon the sketch. Influences in the massing and layering are apparent in my layout. I was not exactly sure what to do for embellishments so I made a massive mess digging through things, but I glad I discovered the Amy Tangerine leaves in my stash. I then pulled out 2 punches and got to work finishing it all up.

I can’t wait for tomorrow morning and for a new sketch!!

Ooh La La LO

March 27, 2012

Ruffles, butterflies, sequins, and angled… how is it that I made this page?!?!?!?? This is so unlike what I normally do. Most pages are very simple and regimented like this or this. But I am trying to do things I would not normally do. That is the only way to get better at something you do. So that is why I made this page documenting the ‘Ooh la la’ necklace from Kate Spade that Pricer gave me for my birthday.

I love the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan line from Elizabeth Kartchner because it is so pretty but that prettiness makes me a bit nervous because I don’t want to wreck anything! But I lept and had fun with this. I was playing around making swirls with the sequin ribbon and that make me think about using it for the O’s in Ooh. Then I just decided to make the whole title with it. Looking back on it I wish I would have pulled out my Cricut and cut a title first to use as a guide but I still like it for what it taught me to do.

True Love LO- 3.18.12 Sunday Sketch

March 20, 2012

Aprilsketchi

–3.18.12 Sunday Sketch–

So I am a slacker. I’m not talking about my constant feet planted approached at taking the LEED test, but a craft/blogger slacker. My love for Studio Calico’s Sunday sketches is should be no surprise at this point since I have a whole page on the blog devoted to linking my take on the sketches on there. Well, if you noticed it’s been barely lately. I am good about doing the sketches but I don’t have the consistent follow through on scanning, photographing, posting, linking… hmmm I wonder why?!?!

Well this is a brand new Studio Calico Sunday Sketch so I rushed to do it, and actually follow through and post it. As soon as I saw the sketch I knew which layout I would use it for so I just dug through my ‘to scrap’ photos and got to work. It came together really quickly and I love when that happens. I made a mistake but shit happens so I made myself work with it instead of tossing the whole thing in the trash. Do you see it?

One of my favorite things about this layout is my use of FabRips. This was my first time using Studio Calico’s FabRips. I just never felt the need to use the product before. Mainly because I didn’t know how I would want to use it. I felt just needed to give it a try once and for all so I cut a strip and scrunched it up. I think I’ll def be exploring more with the pieces I have, but I know I definitely need to get this filmstrip FabRips!
