36 Weeks- Bump Update

November 3, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

36 weeks bump

21 days to go!

We’ve made a lot of progress on things this week, which I’m excited about. I haven’t felt rushed or any pressure to get things done since I have 3 weeks until the scheduled C-section and they are estimating The Bean will spend 3-4 weeks in the NICU after that. Sure, I know I can go in labor before the 25th but I still know that we won’t be rushing home with a baby a few days later.

But we finally got the room going by picking out the paint (Behr’s Moon Rise on 3 walls and Behr’s Valley Mist on 1 wall) and Price ripping through it and getting it all painted. We have some craft projects to do for the room but it feels good that the painting is done.

As well, the car seat (Britax’s B-Safe) arrived at work on Friday and we picked it up yesterday before the crushing crowds for the World Series winning Red Sox’s parade swarmed the area.

So with 3 weeks to go I feel good. My only ‘complaint’ is that my hips have been bugging me but nothing too badly. Also, if I’m on my feet for awhile then they start to bug me as well but again, nothing is too uncomfortable. I feel so boring whenever someone asks me how I’m going since I just reply with “I’m good” or “I’m fine”. I kinda wish I could wear a shirt with my status on it, like the “Hi My Name is:” name tags but with something quippy since I’m getting tired of saying the same thing over and over again.

PS- That shirt right there is a kid’s shirt. Yep, wearing a kid’s shirt at 9months pregnant. Sure, it might be the biggest size they have but let’s just roll with it…

36 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: per 11/1 appointment: 11.5lb total weight gain

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: getting shallower, still in!

Clothing: I wish I could wear PJ’s a lot of the time but maternity jeans or leggings with tunics will have to do

Cravings/Aversions: nothing in particular- as usual. regretting how much candy that I’ve eaten Halloween week.

Sleep: so damn tired again, been going to bed early or falling sleep early on the sofa. Trying not to drink too late at night so that I only get up 2x. But I still silently swear a whole long list of obscenities whenever I wake up.

Mood: Fine, still trying not to imagine things related to C-section, but trying to kick any thought related to The Bean’s omphalocele and the related surgery planned for the day after delivery

Movement: the baby shifts around a lot but I’m not feeling kicks since the baby is Frank Breech. I crack up when I look down and see my belly move from side to side.

Milestones: Price painted The Bean’s room this week!

What I miss: margaritas. I could go for a pitcher at this point.

What I am looking forward to: completing decorating the baby’s room & 3 doctors appointments tomorrow, including another ultrasound and getting to meet the Dr performing the C-section

35 Weeks- Bump Update

October 27, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

35 week bump

28 days to go!

Last Sunday, we went out on a picnic with Kemper to enjoy the nice fall day on The Esplanade (my very belated September date day). We ended up walking 3.5 miles that day. I was so tired at the end of it. Well, so was Kemper since we napped together once we got home. In general, I’ve been forgetting how tired I get from being on my feet, even just being around the house at times can get me so tired. But this was so much so Kemper and I cuddled up and slept for a few hours. Bliss.

I also forget about not picking up heavy things. So I got yelled at this weekend when I picked up the 4moms Breeze playard and moved it so that it was in the zone of stuff to make its way upstairs. I moved it all of 12′ and got yelled at. At least Price is looking out for me 🙂

So for the most part maternity pants are stupid. Well, the ones from Old Navy are since the ‘stretchy’ boot cut jeans I got from them were not stretchy so they were basically impossible to get on without anything like belt loops to grab. So I have 2 pairs of pants to return to Old Navy and I’m thinking of swinging to Target to find something there quickly.

I’m thinking I need to rig something up for Halloween ASAP, even just to wear to hand out candy to trick or treaters.

I appreitate all the sweet emails and messages I received from my post about The Bean and its health issues related to its omphalocele. We have a lot to juggle in the first month while The Bean is in the NICU but we know we can get through it. It’s jsut though thinking about now, esp the part when they warn us we probably won’t get to hold The Bean

35 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: per 10/22 ultrasound, The Bean is estimated at 4lbs 14 oz and per 10/25 dr appointment I’ve gained 10 lbs total.

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: getting shallower

Clothing: I’m over wearing nomral pants with belly bands for the most part because of how the open zipper is irritating, more than the fit. Ordered more maternity clothes and hoping to make a Target run where I can grab another pair of maternity pants

Cravings/Aversions: sweets and thinking about chinese food all the time but then I know it will just make me thirsty, which means drink more water = more trips to the bathroom!!!

Sleep: so tired so I’ve been trying to get to bed earlier and earlier, or at least fall asleep on the sofa while we watch the World Series games.

Mood: getting anxious with 1 month to go

Movement: the baby shifts around a lot but I’m not feeling kicks since the baby is Frank Breech.

Milestones: we have picked out both the boy and girl name options. So now we jsut need to wait the month before we know which one we’ll be using!

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach, wine, not constantly drinking water = lots of bathroom trips, etc

What I am looking forward to: Price finishing painting the room this week! He got 2 walls done and will get the other 2 done this week. Then we are assembling the crib and decorating!!

The Bean and its Omphalocele

October 25, 2013

Bear with me and this super long post…

I haven’t been in the mood to blog in a while. A real long while. I’m tired and unmotivated. Plus, since our desktop died earlier this month, taking along with it 1 billion and a half photos (including many photos of things I actually created drafts for), I’m even less motivated to think of and create new things, to blog about.

I’m not depressed, I’m just really tired. I’m slipping back into the early pregnancy tiredness when I just want to lay on the sofa to relax while mindlessly watching and re-watching this season of Chicago Fire or Scandal or go to bed before 8pm. I’m not used to this and it’s really weird, confusing, and tiring.

So while I am not depressed (just tired), I am super anxious.

I’m super anxious that our baby arrives in 30 days. I’m super anxious that I need a C-section. I’m super anxious that our Bean will need surgery about a day or so after his/her arrival. I’m super anxious that we won’t be able to hold our baby for a few days.

umm what? Exactly…

I haven’t discussed it here (aside from saying I need a C-section) or anywhere really, but I figure that since I’m a month out from delivery and I’ll be sharing plenty about The Bean after that I should explain what Price and I have been dealing with since May.

____________________

So I found out I was pregnant early on since I am very, very much on schedule (I think that matches my type A controlling nature). So thankfully I stopped drinking immediately and figured out that I was the most exhausted I had ever been in my life related to being pregnant, and not having mono or something. Thankfully, besides being tired & wanting to go to bed before 7.30pm, I was feeling well considering I was never sick so I just made my appointments to kick things off at the Dr’s and went on my merry way.

Things were going smoothly until I had a little scare at 6 weeks when I started bleeding one night. I stood up when I was going to bed and something felt off and there was blood down my thighs (TMI). I had a complete freak out, obviously, and an unscheduled trip to the Dr the next day which resulted in us seeing The Bean with a strong heartbeat. Bliss.

US 130417_01_edit

first ultrasound!

Well, it turns out that since my blood type is O- my Rh factor is negative, so a whole bunch of medical stuff aside, my body was just freaking out a little about the intruder (most likely with + type blood from Price) rapidly growing inside me. I had to get a RhoGAM shot to help balance things out and since then I’ve been good to go with follow-up shots.

After that we just kept going along our business going to appointments to meet my midwife and Dr. (The practice that I go to uses both midwives and OBGYN’s to monitor you so that is why my appointments are split up between the two.) Had some quick Ultrasounds (US) at 8 weeks and 10 weeks to double-check measurements to confirm the due date and get some heat beat readings- all in the 140’s for you people who want to guess on the sex of the baby.

We were going along according to plan right until the nuchal translucency screening (NT test) on May 20th. This rest is performed after 12 weeks to check on growth as well checking on indicators for Downs. The US was going well with the tech taking the required measurements for Downs and everything was looking good since those readings were well within an acceptable range. But then things started to go downhill in that the tech and Dr (not my OBGYN) saw something on the abdomen. And that is when the tears started to steam down my face and the grip we had on each other’s hand got tighter. The Dr went to get another Dr for a second opinion and that is when I looked at Price and completely lost it. Thankfully he calmed me down before the US continued on and the Dr’s were awesome and so kind about telling us what they saw.

US 130520_01_edit US 130520_03_edit

the ultrasound that changed everything

Ultimately, it was discussed that the baby has an omphalocele, meaning that there is an abdominal wall defect resulting in the baby’s abdominal organ(s) are growing outside of the baby around its navel. (Don’t google omphalocele. Just don’t. Don’t look at images. Trust me.) This was devastating to hear because we didn’t know what it meant really for immediate issues after birth and for the long-term.

After the NT scan at the ultrasound center, I went to my OBGYN’s office to check in with them and complete the rest of the First Trimester Screening by getting my blood drawn. We further discussed what having an omphalocele meant, esp. one in which it appeared that the liver, or at least part of the liver, was in the sack that was protruding from the abdominal cavity. Additionally, they then started to get things scheduled with a specialist at another office.

So from the time I had the scan until I could see the specialist on the following Tuesday, I was a massive crying mess at work, on the bus, at home- so everywhere.  One morning on the weekend I woke up, rolled over to the wall and stared at it for 20 minutes and then rolled on my back and stared at the light for another 20 minutes before shuffling downstairs where I cried once Price met me at the bottom of the stairs. Basically, it was the longest 8 days between the NT scan and the appointment with the specialist- thanks Memorial Day weekend.

So Tuesday comes along and we have another Ultrasound and our appointment with the specialist. Unfortunately, we left that appointment on Tuesday disappointed with the specialist because of her bed side manner and how we overall didn’t feel that she was providing the info that we were seeking and hoping to get clarified for us. At least things kept moving along and I had another test scheduled then for Friday.

On Friday, the 31st, we went to a local hospital for genetic counseling and for a Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)- like an amniocentesis but performed earlier on and instead of taking amniotic fluid it would take some tissue from the placenta. This time I had a different specialist who we loved (and have been seeing ever since). She was great throughout the whole procedure and we liked her attitude. The CVS wasn’t so horrible but hurt in a weird way since I had the sampling taken from my stomach (instead of vaginally). In the end I had to have it done twice in order to get a good sample. I think I crushed Price’s poor hands as I squeezed the shit out of them when I was freaking out, not because it really hurt but more because I was so worn out from all the crap going on. Like a ‘what the fuck is happening in my life right now!?!?’ moment which resulted in some sobbing (what else is new) during the procedure… you know the one that I have to remain perfectly still because there is a needle sticking in your stomach and into the placenta. Again, the dr’s and nurses were great getting me to breathe and focus and get still again for them to continue on.

US 130531_02_edit

post CVS ultrasound to check on The Bean

After the test I had to have another RhoGAM shot, get my blood pressure taken, and another US to check on the baby, who was doing perfectly fine.

The CVS wasn’t that bad and I pretty much felt fine the next day. It just sucked to sneeze until about Monday, but no real complaints.

All weekend were on edge as we were awaiting the results of the CVS. We were on high alert for issues with chromosomes 13, 18, and 21.

For example, an extra 21 chromosome indicates Downs Syndrome. In some cases an omphalaocele can be a visual indicator that signifies that the baby has something wrong with chromosomes 13 and 18. Trisomy 13 is known as Patau Syndrome, which results in severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities in many parts of the body, which often means that many infants die within a first days or weeks of being born. As well, trisomy 18 is known as Edwards syndrome, is a chromosomal condition associated with abnormalities in many parts of the body, often resulting in babies dying before birth or within their first month. In both cases, only 5-10% of children with those conditions live past their first year, and these children often have severe intellectual and physical disabilities.

On Monday we got the preliminary test results back from the CVS. The FISH Results identifies if all the chromosomes are present and paired. Thankfully, the results showed that showed that ALL chromosomes were paired. We were able to take a big sigh of relief, at this point because this was some great news.

Things continued on as we awaited the final results, which would show if there were sections of chromosomes missing or duplicated. Again, we got great news being that everything was looking good chromosomally. (We could have pushed things further at this point with an amino to get some more detailed results, but we decided not to as nothing in the CVS results was questionable or raised any further red flags.

It was then at we decided to share the news with more people and on the blog!!

US 130703_04_edit

We continued on with more appointments and ultrasounds through June and July. Again, everything was looking fine with the baby’s development, including its heart. Again, the omphalocele could indicate physical development issues, but in this case it appears that it is the only problem and there are no other associated developmental issues.

US 130717_02_edit

hand on its face- something that has been consistent since May

In mid July we had our first appointment with the surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital, about 20 minutes from our house, where the baby will be transferred to after it’s delivered at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. (They are actually connected with a bridge!) Here the baby will have its surgery and stay for about a month in the NICU as it heals. The surgeon was fantastic explaining what the ultrasounds have been indicating and what it ultimately meant for the baby, its care, and long-term health. Since everything was indicating a small to medium-sized omphalocele that contained part of the baby’s liver, she was explaining that it appeared that the baby would only need 1 surgery and have to stay in the NICU for a month. As well, it doesn’t currently appear that there would be any long-term health problems. She told us about a study of teens that had omphalocele’s at birth and how their biggest complaint was that they had a weird-looking belly button because the surgeons have to make one for them since that is right where the omphalocele is. Oh, big complaint!

Again, the summer kept moving right along with bi-weekly US appointments that the specialist would review and then recap with my OBGYN and midwife. So right now this is one well ‘photographed’ baby and it isn’t even born yet! Related to that, I’m quite proud that we haven’t accidentally found out the sex with all those scans. I warn them every time not to tell me and if they are looking around down there to tell me to close my eyes!

I passed my sugar test in early September with flying colors and have been doing well myself with staying active (thanks Kemper!) and not gaining much weight.

We then went on our ‘babymoon’ to the Florida Keys in late September. It was such a great trip and so worth it. It was nice to take a break from everything and get away together. Plus it didn’t hurt that great food, beautiful sunsets, driving around with the top down in a convertible, laying out by the pool, Price’s birthday, and our engagement were involved!!!

On October 2nd, we had our 2nd appointment at Children’s Hospital to meet with our surgeon again so she could check up on The Bean’s progress and for us to meet with a lactation consultant and get a NICU tour. The tour of the NICU was the hardest part being that we could see the incubator that The Bean will be in while hearing about the kinda of care that is given, how schedules are kept, and what it is like to visit. It was super hard seeing the babies that were teeny tiny and having notes up that they were there for 2 or 3 months already. Insane to me. It makes me thankful we are not in the situation but still so hard to see the place where we will be going to daily to see The Bean while its healing there. So of course I cried after the tour while we waited for the surgeon to come in. Not super awkward at all…

Still things are going well with the baby growing on track (last update was an estimated weight of 4lbs 14 ounces on Tuesday 10/22). The baby is still Frank Breech which drives me crazy but the Dr’s aren’t worried about it since I’m having a C-section anyway.

Well, now I’m now to the point where I have weekly appointments with my OBGYN/midwife, in addition to my bi-weekly US appointments with my specialist. Apparently, all I do is run around Boston going to appointments now, pay for parking, and wipe ultrasound gel off stomach and clothes. 😛

So that brings everything up to speed now with what has been going on with The Bean.

____________________

It is hard to be a month out at this point. I was doing much better dealing with things when I still had months and weeks until The Bean’s arrival. But not that it is really fast approaching I’m really struggling now knowing that when the baby is born it will have to have a surgery about a day after its born. And in all likelihood we won’t get to hold the baby for a few days in order to not disturb the abdomen and the liver in the omphalocele. It is not what I pictured at all for the arrival of our first baby but we have to just roll with the punches and keep on going.

So I’ll wash and fold the clothes and just wait to get to use them until Christmas time when the baby is actually home. We’ll drive around with the car seat awaiting the baby to sit in on its first trip home. And we’ll tell the dog for the millionth time he can’t chew on the bouncy chair’s hanging stuffed animals that he so want to destroy. He has to get used to all the baby stuff hanging around!

So thanks to the family and handful of friends we did tell for their support during the past few months. xoxo

The Bean’s Baby Shower

October 23, 2013

baby shower_01

My baby shower was 2 weekends ago. It was so lovely and we had such a fun time celebrating with family and friends.

My mom came up from Florida on Friday night to surprise me for the shower so it was great to be able to celebrate with her there as well.

baby shower_02 baby shower_03

baby shower_04

Sooo freaking cute!!

The general idea for the shower was to focus on fun fall things from pies, crisp apples, and bright changing leaves. We enjoyed goodies like a caramel dip with apples, fresh baked banana bread, and homemade caramel popcorn balls.

baby shower_05

We all enjoyed goodies and wine (well, I had apple cider) while we caught up and did baby shower things. Just kidding… baby shower games are THE WORST and I would have climbed out the 4th story window instead of playing a game.

But I couldn’t get out of opening the presents, but I could drag Price into the festivities and that is exactly what I did. 😛

 baby shower_06 baby shower_07

Price and I had registered online using Baby List. It’s an online registry that allows you to ‘pin’ things, basically just like pinterest, to your registry from any website. We decided to use this for our registry that it would make things easy for people to shop, esp when living in a city with limited access to the big box stores like Babies R Us.

There were lots of very cute outfits to show off. Like, one of our friends is a diehard Batman fan so he obviously gifted us some adorable Batman themed onesies. Cute!

baby shower_08

Pricer is kinda super excited about diaper bag. He likes that it has a list inside to remind you of what to pack. (I think this just gives me backup for when he forgets something)

baby shower_09

My sister gave us a great bouncy seat as well as this adorable onesie for The Bean.

 baby shower_10 baby shower_11

A big THANK YOU to Kellie and Cheri for planning this wonderful party and another big THANK YOU for everyone who came or gave us a gift for The Bean.

xoxo

34 Weeks- Bump Update

October 20, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

34 week bump

35 days to go!!

I feel like I’m burning up some days. I am an oven!! I would prefer to wear tank tops and flip flops but that’s a little weird, plus Price is threatening to throw out my flip flops because he can’t handle me wearing them anymore. So we were out shopping on Saturday and I got 2 pairs of shoes to wear into the fall.

I am so determined to get The Bean to flip and get out of the Frank Breech position that I’ve been trying some DIY things to get things going. Like I have been laying back and propping up my butt and legs to elevate things to get the baby to try to right itself, which would actually be upside down. Plus then I read about putting something cold on the top of my stomach so that baby would move away from it. I feel quite insane doing all of this but I don’t want The Bean’s legs all weird after delivery. They said it won’t be an issue but it still bugs me.

We set up the bouncy chair that my sister gave us at the shower so Kemper would get used to having it around. Plus, so he’d get used to hearing ‘no’ 5,000x when he tries to chew stuffed animals that hang from the bar above the seat. He was really determined early on to get them but he’s getting over it now.

I finally took out my belly button ring. I bet I could keep it in longer but I figure i’ll just take it out now before it does get uncomfortable. Now I only hope that my belly button never gets weird since it still looks the same, only slightly shallower.

I have THREE doctors appointments this upcoming week. Ugh.

34 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: guessing around 8 1/2 – 9 1/2 lbs total

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: getting shallower, and I finally took out my belly button ring

Clothing: still a big mix of stuff… maternity pants and regular pants with a belly band paired with maternity and regular tops BUT I finally just ordered a few more maternity things from Old Navy which should arrive mid week

Cravings/Aversions: totally in love with Jelly Belly jelly beans, but other than that I am still pretty indecisive when it comes to picking out what to eat

Sleep: getting really tired again so I’ve been going to be really early again.

Mood: pretty even but I was extra sensitive on Monday and was pretty much drained and ready to cry all day for no real reason

Movement: the baby shifts around a lot but I’m not feeling kicks since the baby is Frank Breech. I keep telling The Bean to move but it’s just not listening.

Milestones: picked up The Breeze playard from work. We will use the bassinet part and set it up next to the bed for The Bean to sleep in before it’s in the crib in it’s room

What I miss: being able to sneeze without the fear of one day peeing. lovely.

What I am looking forward to: Pricer is going to start painting The Bean’s room this week

33 Weeks- Bump Update

October 13, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

33 weeks bump

43 days to go!

I was really worried going to the DR on Friday because I was expecting them to give me grief for gaining a lot of weight since my last appointment. It might have been the 6 hot apple cider donuts that I ate weekend. Or the 2 dinners in which I had steak. And maybe it was the breakfast that included a bowl of cereal and then a half of a cheesy bagel with veggie cream cheese. But I stepped on the scale and it said I had lost a pound since the last appointment, which meant I’ve gained 8 lbs total. Well, being pregnant is the best diet ever then. ha!

My baby shower was held for me yesterday, which is why my mom surprised me by showing up on Friday night. Well, Price knew but I didn’t so it was a nice surprise when I got home. Anyway, my baby shower was amazing and beautiful. I was really anxious about it because I don’t like being the center of attention and you kinda are when you are the focus of the party. Opening presents in front of everyone is the stuff of nightmares for me (Christmas is a horror for me). But thankfully Price was there to help out with the presents and speed things along. Aside from the opening presents part, it was so lovely and fun.

Any tips on getting a baby to flip? Hoping The Bean flips soon since it’s still all tangled up with its hands and feet right up in front of its face. Plus then maybe I’ll finally get to feel some real kicking since I don’t feel any movement related to that now since it’s all balled up. We’ll see how things go in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed.

33 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: 8lbs total, according to my DR’s visit on Friday (10/11)

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: getting shallower, but the ring is still in. I feel just stubborn about taking it out. It’s dumb.

Clothing: still a big mix of stuff… maternity pants and regular pants with a belly band paired with maternity and regular tops.

Cravings/Aversions: nothing this past week, but still pretty indecisive when it comes to picking out what to eat

Sleep: getting really tired again. napped yesterday and today

Mood: pretty even but I was extra sensitive on Monday and was pretty much drained and ready to cry all day for no real reasons

Movement: the baby shifts around a lot but I’m not feeling kicks since the baby is Frank Breech. I keep telling The Bean to move but it’s just not listening.

Milestones: had my baby shower yesterday!

What I miss: not having to track how much water I’ve been drinking. I’m getting really tired of water

What I am looking forward to: getting to work on The Bean’s room. Gotta set up the crib!

32 Weeks- Bump Update

October 6, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

32 weeks baby bump

People we are now under the 50 day countdown. less than 50 days!!

It’s crazy to think that we are only 7 weeks away from meeting our baby but it’s true. Also, crazy to think of all the stuff we have to do before then. The baby’s room needs the most work but we’re not really worried about it since we know the baby will sleep in our room for a while anyway.

I didn’t realize how tired I was from the week of crunch time leading up to the fashion show (esp. considering I didn’t feel like I pushed myself, unlike last year’s 3am late nights) and ultimately that ah-mazing night, until Friday midday hit and boom I was done-zo. Both Price and I napped on Friday since we left work early and I pretty much was zonked out on the sofa all day, until I stumbled into bed.

While my sugar test results were great, my iron was on the low side. So my midwife said to up my steak intake and get an iron vitamin. Done and done. Having a steak salad for dinner tonight!!!!

Speaking of dinner, my sister got us a week (3 nights actually) from Blue Apron meals. I picked it to arrive yesterday so this week we’re gonna have Steak Salad with Chicory, Curried Chickpeas, Walnuts & Apples, Braised Chicken Thighs with Caramelized Peppers & Onion over Creamy Polenta, and White Fish “En Papillote” with Freekeh. They send you EVERYTHING you need. Seriously, everything. They sent us the parchment paper we need for the fish dinner. It’s such a cool concept. My sister got it for us to make having a healthy dinner easier for us to juggle now.  (Can’t survive on mac and cheese and cereal only) Price and I are looking forward to continuing it and having it arrive every few weeks so we get to try some new and healthy dishes. noms.

32 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: I dunno. I didn’t care to get on the scale this week as I apparently had the strategy to “Eat Everything in Sight” for Friday’s breakfast. Let’s recap breakfast, shall we… 1/4 of a blueberry scone, slice of a gluten free apple breakfast cake, 1/2 a sausage biscuit from Burger King, and half a cheesy bagel with veggie cream cheese. However, I didn’t eat much Thursday before the binge nor afterwards on Friday. Whatever.

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: starting to get shallower, but the ring is still in. I feel just stubborn about taking it out. It’s dumb.

Clothing: still a big mix of stuff… maternity pants and regular pants with a belly band paired with maternity and regular tops.

Cravings/Aversions: We had the pizza I was craving from Prince’s Pizzeria yesterday. It’s just so damn good. However, the thought of eggs, esp scrambled ones, has me gaggy.

Sleep: sooo tired. I can’t wait to nap later on today.

Mood: good, but certain things has me ready to start the waterworks and not stop.

Movement: I feel the big gestures/shifts but there isn’t too much movement as we were updated that the wee one is still Frank Breech so there isn’t too much kung-fu going on in there, The Bean is just hanging out folded up in half.

Milestones: had a tour of the hospital on Wednesday

What I miss: wine. damn I wanted wine so badly at the fashion show after party. Actually, I wanted to rip the whiskey on the rocks out of my friend Adam’s hand but I managed not to. Less than 50 days…

What I am looking forward to: my baby shower is this upcoming Saturday

31 Weeks- Bump Update

September 30, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

31 weeks

I’ve been sick this week. It totally stinks. It’s just a cold but I’m used to knocking out a cold in a few days by just drugging myself with DayQuil and NyQuil. So this is a big change for me. I mean, not taking 3x of a dose and knocking yourself out is a big change for me. But at least I’m sounding and feeling better so I’ll just ride this out with normal doses of medicine.

I worked on the IIDA fashion show for the past 2 years so I was not going to let the growing belly hold me back this year. For the past few months our team has worked hard on developing our theme and ultimately constructing the 4 costumes in the show. I’ve been working on making wigs for the show, which has been a lot of fun and work. Anyway, it’s CRUNCH TIME since the show is on Thursday. I can’t wait!!

Once the fashion show crunch is over Price and I will dive into the work involved for getting the nursery ready. So the goal is to get to work this weekend moving things around to get the rabbits settled in their new home in our basement den and then hopefully painting the room once it has been super cleaned out. Fingers crossed!

31 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: 8- 8.5 ish lbs & the baby was estimated at 3lbs 1oz on tuesday (9/24) so not so bad there 🙂

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: still no change! But removal of my belly button ring seems like it’s fast approaching

Clothing: still a big mix of stuff… maternity pants and regular pants with a belly band with maternity and regular tops.

Cravings/Aversions: nothing that I’m dying to have but I keep thinking about pepperoni pizza from Prince’s Pizzeria in Saugus. The pepperoni gets soooo crispy. noms.

Sleep: stopped taking unisom again since I felt like I didn’t need it but I’d like to stop waking up in the middle of the night to pee. (Doubt that will stop tho!!)

Mood: feeling pretty good but then I get really stress out about the unknown

Movement: not feeling the jabs, kicks as much as I did before but The Bean has been Frank Breech for the past few weeks so I think that could be why. I think being folding in half might have something to do with it.

Milestones: picked out the first name if it’s a boy. still have to select the middle name from the options we have. Still narrowing down options if it’s a girl. We’re down to 3 first names, and again more combos for the middle names.

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach and not sleeping with a body pillow so I stay on my left side.

What I am looking forward to: going on a walk to the beach this week with the dog. He is allowed there again starting October 1st so we’ll change up our walks and go there.

30 Weeks- Bump Update

September 22, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

20130922-111221.jpg

hello sunburned legs and bump

We’re in the Florida Key’s right now on our last vacation before the baby comes. It’s been amazing down here. The weather is incredible and we’ve been having an awesome time cruising around in the convertible and relaxing by the pool since Thursday.

AND of course I got sick- typical clogged ears, sore throat, and stuffy/faucet nose. Shoulda seen me trying to pick out over the counter med’s that are okay to take while pregnant. Solid 15 minutes in the isle with handfuls of meds reading the ingredients list and double checking with the approved list on my phone. Made me miss just grabbing NyQuil, popping it open, and taking a huge swig before passing out. But now it’s all about being careful which ones won’t ‘effect blood flow to the placenta.’ Guess that’s important…

In lighter/funnier news, we were walking around Key West yesterday and near the end of the day I was whining how I had a cramp that I occasionally get on my right side. Stopping and waiting for it to pass typically helps but I was so hot and just wanted to get back to the car so I just kept going while holding my side. So I was joking to Price how I looked like Joey on Friends when he had the hernia.

Hey Timmy, I’ve got a surprise for you…

30 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: 7ish pounds? I’ll find out on Tuesday at my next appointment, you know, after I’ve stuffed my face with Key Lime Pie while on vacation

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: still glad there has been no change, but the countdown on taking my belly button ring seems like it’s fast approaching

Clothing: mix of maternity pants and regular pants with a belly band with maternity and regular tops still. so a total mix of stuff.

Cravings/Aversions: I feel like I have more aversions now than ever before. While at dinner on Friday night I was reading the menu for a great sounding salad loaded up with coconut shrimp but it had raspberry vinaigrette and I wanted to gag reading it.

Sleep: having some trouble falling asleep so I’m taking Unisom again

Mood: feeling cry-y over things more and more.

Movement: all over the place. When laying in bed we get a kick out of my belly shifting from side to side.

Milestones: currently on our ‘babymoon’

What I miss: boozy drinks. Sitting by the pool with virgin drinks is fine and all but man I miss the rum/vodka/tequila. And can we talk about how the virgin drinks here are $9 and reg drinks are $10. WTF!!!

What I am looking forward to: getting home tomorrow and seeing Kemper and the bunnies. As well as apple picking, maybe next weekend… hint hint.

29 Weeks- Bump Update

September 15, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

29 week bump

So what’s been going on this past week?

I had my glucose test on Tuesday morning. It really wasn’t bad- just like flat orange soda. Plus I had imagined it was like a big Poland Springs bottle but it was only about 4 ounces, which is next to nothing. Then it was just an hour of waiting and a blood draw. Pretty basic. The worst part of it all was getting the gauze and tape off my arm that night. So now I just wait on the results, which I hope say I can still eat a cookie when I want!

And then on Wednesday morning I had another Dr’s appointment for an ultrasound. I walked in and had a different tech and *boom* I was miserable. I love my typical ultrasound tech Liz and not having her just ruined the whole experience. It takes me a lot to warm up to people, and I’m now really comfortable with her since I see her ever 2 weeks. Plus unannounced change does not sit well with me. This woman was really nice but it was just not the fit for me. Also I got some of the crappiest sonogram pics ever. Whatever, I’ll get some great ones soon when I see Liz next.

So, I’ve come to find out I’m scheduled for my C-section on Monday 11/25 (more on that later). So weird to know exactly when we’ll have the baby, unless, of course, The Bean decides to show up sooner. So, I’ll be in at Brigham and Women’s for Thanksgiving. Eh, no big. The biggie for me is that my OBGYN can’t actually make it then so I need to meet a colleague of her’s who will actually do it. Like I said, I don’t deal well with change, esp when it comes to people, but I’ll have Price with me when we meet and on the big day so he’ll keep me grounded, i.e. not let me freak/bitch out.

On Saturday,  we finally got to Union Square Donuts in Somerville. I had talked about them months ago but we finally got there and holy hell… these are some incredible donuts. Long ago I wrote off Dunkin’ and places like this really enforce why I don’t waste my $ and calories on crappy donuts. They have large light, airy donuts in flavors like Maple Bacon and Chocolate Chipotle. We shared a Maple Bacon, Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch, and a Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel for a late lunch. Perfection. I warned Price that if I am ever craving a donut he better get in the car to go there ASAP. 🙂

Also, on Saturday we sorta stalked a woman in Target to talk to her about the Baby Jogger City Select stroller she was using. It had been wrestling for our pick with the Uppa Baby Vista. Well, luck would have it, this super nice lady had BOTH. She got the Vista with her 1st child and then got the City Select when she had her 2nd because she felt limited with the Vista. So hearing her feedback related to both and her suggestion to get the City Select has sealed the deal for us.

29 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’m scheduled for my C-section on 11/25! It will be a Thanksgiving in the hospital!

Weight Gain: just under 7 lbs total. And The Bean was estimated at 2lb 10 oz on Wednesday.

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: still glad there has been no change

Clothing: regular pants when I use the belly bands and still in some regular tops but adding in more of the new maternity clothes I got with my mom last weekend

Cravings/Aversions: I walked by Chipotle on Tuesday and felt so gaggy. I think I will be skipping Chipotle now.

Sleep: having some trouble falling asleep so I’m taking Unisom again

Mood: fine, unless it relates to change

Movement: Found out The Bean is currently Frank Breech (butt down with feet up by the face). Poor little thing is folded up in half!! So I think that is why some movement has been limited recently and most on my left side.

Milestones: we picked our stroller!

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach.

What I am looking forward to: We are heading off to The Keys for our ‘babymoon’ on Thursday morning. (Kemper is staying with our dog walker, who he loves, but I’m sure I’ll still be a wreck leaving him)

28 Weeks- Bump Update

September 8, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

28 week bump

Ummm, we have reached the Third Trimester people. Holy Crap!!!!

So far things have been going smoothly- never been sick, haven’t gained much weight, sleeping pretty well still (sometimes with the help with unisom), no crazy cravings, and I don’t think I’ve been an insufferable bitch with mood swings. (Feel free to ask Price about that.) The only big complaint I have is that my right hip hurts, but it has hurt on and off over the past few years and I think it really has to do with wearing flip flops all summer. Can’t expect to not have an issues when I have shitty arches and wear shows with no support. Also, my nose has decided to bleed anytime I blow my nose this weekend. Not really a big deal but annoying since I’m mainly afraid of having blood on my face and not knowing it. Lovely.

Football has started again and I’m really excited to lounge around when we watch the games. Lazy Sundays are just the best. The Giants are playing tonight, hence my super awesome shirt above.

We’re picking up the crib tomorrow night. The room needs a lot of room before we assemble it but I’m still really excited about it.

And then I get my sugar test on Tuesday. I’m not exited about that.

28 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT I’ll get the date of my scheduled C-section at this week’s appointment, which will occur the week of Thanksgiving at 39 weeks **UPDATE: scheduled for 11/25!**

Weight Gain: 8lbs I think… my scale and the dr’s scale are way off so I’m waiting for my appointment on Tuesday morning for their reading ***UPDATE: at my Tuesday appointment it showed I was up +6 total***

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: still glad there has been no change

Clothing: regular pants when I use the belly bands and still in some regular tops but adding in more of the new maternity clothes I got with my mom last weekend

Cravings/Aversions: Still no aversions but A.D.ID.A.S= All Day I Dream About Sugar! Peaches, Twizzlers, gummy bears, and piles of cookies.

Sleep: having some trouble sleeping so i’m taking Unisom again

Mood: had a lovely cry fest Friday night before Price left to go back home for the weekend with the pup. It stresses me out when Price drives so far (5.5+ hrs) in the dark and I hate sleeping alone so I mucked up his shirt with sob tears. Then basically passed out on the sofa from a long week and wrecked nerves.

Movement: lots more is noticeable now. The Bean seems to like settling in on my left side

Milestones: now into the 3rd trimester!!

What I miss: wine! bought a bottle of white wine to use while making dinner on Friday night and it took all my strength not to guzzle the whole thing directly from the bottle

What I am looking forward to: only 11 more days until we are on our ‘babymoon’

27 Weeks- Bump Update

September 1, 2013

I’ll do a weekly bump update so I can look back and see how things progress and what was happening at various points along the way.

27 week bump

I finally got the Vietnamese food that I had been ‘craving’ for a few weeks. I walked down to Chinatown one day during lunch so that I could get my favorite bun (a rice noodle dish). It was sooo good. Exactly what I needed during a crazy week… my favorite food and a nice lunch our during a beautiful afternoon.

We are still undecided on what stroller/car seat combo we are getting. We keep doing a lot of research and trying out of different strollers as we way each pro and con. We factor in price, construction/materials, ease of use in city, and flexibility. For example…

The Orbit System: It’s beautiful, very sturdy, easy to maneuver, and made of green materials. Best of all are is the rotating feature that is key to the system. It makes it super easy to get into the car which is great for this shorty. As well, the car/stroller seat rotates 360 while being hooked up to the stroller base- which no other stroller does. It is really easy to travel with as it is easy to fold, packs up really small, and pull behind you (like a suitcase), but at the same time does the price for the travel collection ($1170) and other accessories out way all those features? Also, if you want to add another seat you make the stroller really long, which would be very hard to get on and off of the bus/T- which is a HUGE negative for us.

The Vista from Uppa Baby: We were looking at a Britax B-Ready system but found out that the Vista was really similar and a local company. Gotta support local! It was really easy to maneuver, easy to fold (even with stroller seat attached), and great for city use with large wheels and a shock absorbing system. We also like that you can use a variety of car seats with it so it has that flexibility as a plus. The system comes with the stroller base, ‘toddler’ stroller seat, and a bassinet for $729. It is nice that it comes with a bassinet but we doubt we would use it because of the season so it’s not a big plus for us. So once you factor in the $729 + car seat adapter + car seat you are over $1,000 and are pretty close to the price for the Orbit, but without the rotating feature that we love.

The City Select from Baby Jogger: We just saw this stroller this weekend and really got hooked on it. It is from a company that has a long standing history of durable strollers. While Baby Jogger has a lot of strollers we really like this one as it has 4 wheels (we want more stability as we will be lifting the stroller on/off the bus/T a lot). Overall, we like that it is really comfortable to use, light, and the simplest to fold. Best of all it has SO many options for adding on another seat in the future. Another plus, is the price point of the stroller ($499) and the other accessories.

So we’ll eventually decide…

My mom has been visiting for Labor Day weekend. It’s been nice to see her since I haven’t seen her since April. We got to do a lot of catch about about The Bean. Plus we got out and about going to Magic Beans and Target to do some stroller research and some shopping. Target had a big baby sale and we had some coupons (thanks Rachel!!!) so we grabbed some things which was a lot of fun.

27 Week Bump Update

Current Due Date: 12/1/13- BUT my to be scheduled C-section will occur my 39th week so right before Thanksgiving… I just keep forgetting to call to check on the day.

Weight Gain: Ate too much this weekend, gotta lean it up this week

Stretch Marks: none 🙂

Belly Button: no change, but wondering how long I can keep my belly button ring in

Clothing: using belly bands with ‘regular’ pants and wearing some maternity tops

Cravings/Aversions: Still no aversions but A.D.ID.A.S= All Day I Dream About Sugar! Peaches, Twizzlers, gummy bears, and piles of cookies.

Sleep: can’t wait to sleep in/nap around tomorrow on my day off

Mood: This iphone Face Time commercial will get me EVERY TIME

Movement: The Bean moves most at night

Milestones: 95% sure on what stroller we will get

What I miss: a consistent appetite- I’m just all over the place with being hungry/not hungry at meal times

What I am looking forward to: going on our babymoon… 18 more days!!
