Capturing Time with JORD Watches- AND A GIVEAWAY!!!

September 14, 2016

jord-watch_layflat

I think the hardest thing about being a parent is time.

Time is constantly against you when you are a parent.

jorg-watch_07

It starts when you are pregnant- how many weeks are you? how much longer? how far apart are the contractions?

Then on maternity leave- really? you can’t sleep while I try to take a 2 minute shower? When is your father getting home from work? It’s already been 10 weeks, I can’t go back in 2 weeks. I’m not ready. We’re not ready.

jorg-watch_01 jorg-watch_02 jorg-watch_03

jorg-watch_04 jorg-watch_05 jorg-watch_06

And it goes from there.

“The Days are long, but the years are short.”

That saying is so true. It really is true when you kid wakes you up at 4.35 and you are exhausted at work watching the time slowly creep along.

jord-watch_12

It’s true, when you have 2 minutes before you need to leave for work and daycare and you ask your kid to get their shoes on. And 2 minutes later you’re kid is still screwing around and there are no shoes in sight. Or when you are stuck in traffic. There always is traffic.

Or when you are counting down until they go down for a nap or go to bed.

But at the same time I can’t believe that the weeks, months, years have flown by. Where has my itty bitty baby gone? I have an incredible, energized, talkative, loving daughter who is almost 3. That seems impossible to me!

It’s not fair how little they want to snuggle at times. I swear my kid gives me 2 minutes when I could lay there for hours rubbing her back, giving her butterfly kisses, and breathing her in. (But of course, she only wants that when I am trying to get the dog out who refuses to be house trained… come on Brinkley!!)

No mater what, I am constantly checking the time to see when we need to get out the door, when is it snack time, is time to get to the pool, or is TV time over.

jord-watch_11

Or is it just time to head over to a friend’s for a BBQ. That is one of the best reasons to rush out of the house. Especially when there are margaritas.

Since I am always looking at the time, I was so excited to get this JORD watch.

jorg-watch_08 jorg-watch_09

I was always saying ‘I’m not a watch person. My phone tells me the time.’ BUT when you have a kid that wants to watch Clifford/sing to the Banana Phone song/Draw/anything on your phone, you hide it so they are not glued to it draining your precious battery. So when I am at home, I do my best to keep it hidden or out of reach and rely on a watch.

So it might as well look damn good.

This watch is so cool. It’s made out of wood, sized to fit you, and has an overall great style. There are options of faces, kinds of wood, tones of glass. It feels like its luxurious without the insane price tag.

jord-watch_13

I selected the Koa and Ash watch from the Frankie Collection. There were so many options, but I felt it was more classic than picking out a watch with a pink toned face. While I love fun pops of color in my wardrobe, I wanted something to be more classic and neutral, to go with everything from a white top, to a plaid one, a striped dress, or a black wrap one. It can go with you large Dunkin’ cold brew, or your PSL, or a margarita. ha!!

jorg-watch_10

I am contemplating getting the Frankie 35 in Zebrawood and Navy. The navy just gets me. Like that will go with my obsession for all things preppy and nautical in style. It would just look so good with my lobster print skirt, or my anchor tunic, and my other anchor dress, or that other anchor print dress… I have a problem.

Check out all the awesome wood watches from JORD

Click on this LINK to enter a $75 e-voucher from JORD. Best thing is that everyone wins… everyone who enters gets a $20.00 e-gift card (excluding the winner).

The contest is live now, and will end Sunday 9/25/2016.

The Fall Sunglasses {& a Firmoo Sunglasses Giveaway}

October 15, 2015

Sunglasses_Firmoo_I am a Honey Bee

Sunnies aren’t just for summer!

Sunglasses_Firmoo_I am a Honey Bee-01

Just like how your everyday face lotion has SPF, your eyes should have protection every day. Don’t just think that sunglasses are for hot summer days. You need to protect your eyes during the winter when there is glare off the snow, on cool spring days, and brisk fall days as well.

Sunglasses_Firmoo_I am a Honey Bee-02

Why I am telling you this?!?!

Well, it’s really important!!! You need to treat your eyes with care, just like how you do with your skin.

Truthfully, I haven’t been the best example at proper eye care. I have had classes since 1st grade but since I wear them 24/7, I don’t think about switching them to sunglasses as often as I should. I tend to forget my sunglasses case in bag, at home, or in the car, so I don’t wear them when I run out to take the dog out or run an errand, but I am vowing to change that.

For years my dad has a nevus in his right eye monitored. A nevus is a common, benign, pigmented growth in your eye, similar to a mole on your skin. While it’s rare, it unfortunately can become cancerous. In my dad’s case it became cancerous this past year. He was diagnosed this spring, right before my wedding, and in the beginning of September, he had surgery to treat it.

Specifically, he had Plaque Brachytherapy, aka Radiation Plaque Therapy, to treat his Choroidal Melanoma. While he stayed in a lead lined room in a hospital for a week he had something similar to a seed put behind his eye that contained radiation in it to treat the cancer. He even had a patch. ha! Thankfully his treatment was successful, but he is still experiencing pain and double vision, which prevents him from driving. All minor things in the grand scheme of things but cancer is cancer non the less!

My dad has worn sunglasses but he still developed this, just like people who wear sunscreen can develop skin cancer, but you should try your best to wear them to help prevent this, as well as other eye issues, like cataracts.

I reached out to the great folks at Firmoo this summer to work with them again this year as a Brand Ambassador because glasses and proper eye care are topics that are so important to me. I wanted to be able to share some great news about new trends, styles, and care while doing awesome stuff for you guys>>> giveaways!!!

I picked out these glasses to work for my fall and winter wardrobe. The frames are a dark brown and I picked matching dark brown frames that coordinate with darker fall and winter clothes. I absolutely love them.

Stitch Fix- April (2)

May 1, 2013

Since I just kept 1 item (an awesome necklace that I wear all the time now!) from my last Stitch Fix box I decided to do another Stitch Fix order for the month of April so I moved up my date and my package arrived on Monday.

This package was a hit and I like/loved everything in this box but fit and price dictated what i kept. I decided to keep 2 of the 5 items.

Here are my reviews for each item:

BCBGeneration- Monarch Flutter Sleeve Dress- $98.00

Stitch Fix_April 2_BCBGeneration Dress

Oh this dress! I picked it up and fell in love with it- loved the color, material, price, length, neckline. I was eager to try it on to see how it would fit.

Thankfully, it fit really well so I decided to keep it. I liked the V-neck shape and how it had a button to keep the pieces together. In about 2 weeks I have a little end of project cocktail reception for the project I’ve been working on for the past 2 years and I plan on wearing this dress.

41 Hawthorn- Orinda Stretch Banded Leggings- $48.00

 Stitch Fix_April 2_Leggings

Nice fit but a little too long. Such is the problem for someone who is 5′- 2″ish. Plus, I just bought 2 pairs of legging so I decided not to keep them.

I didn’t photograph myself in them since they are just leggings. I just did us all a favor.

Mystree- Kameron Pleated Detail Tank Top- $68.00

Stitch Fix_April 2_Sheer Blouse 1

I got my Stitch Fix on Monday and wore this top on Tuesday. WITH the necklace that I got in my last shipment!!

Stitch Fix_April 2_Sheer Blouse 2

So obviously I loved it. I didn’t think I would when I first took it out of the box since it’s 1) a blouse 2) sheer 3) white. However the fact that it was flowy made up for the fact that it was a button down blouse. It was sheer but they included a tank with it and it worked well since it had thin straps- which my tanks don’t normally have. It was white but I took the risk anyway and was super careful anytime I ate or drank anything.

THML Sloan Colorblock Tank Dress- $58.00

Stitch Fix_April 2_Color Block Dress

When I opened the box and saw this dress I was soooo excited. I loved the colors, material, detail at the neckline. The price was great too at $68. I just love dresses that look like this.

Unfortunately, it is a shift dress and they just don’t fit me as well as an A-line dress. So no-go. Which is why I didn’t photograph me wearing it. eh

Kensie- Orson Striped Slub Knit Sweater- $58.00

Stitch Fix_April 2_Sweater

I liked this sweater but I didn’t at the same time. Like the colors, texture, short sleeves, but I didn’t feel the stripes were doing my any favors.

____________________

My total was $146. Had I kept the sweater (+$58) it would have been $204 and I just could not justify that for 3 things. However, had the Color Block Dress (also $58) fit I would have kept everything since the total for all 5 would have been $232.50 since that would have included the 25% off discount you get when you purchase all 5 items.

I scheduled my next fix for mid May. I told my stylist the following…

More accessories please. I love the necklace I got in my 2nd fix.
Like the dresses that have been coming, but no shirt or shift dresses please. Like wrap and A-line.
I like maxi skirts. NOT maxi dresses

Stitch Fix- March

March 23, 2013

stitch fix_march_box

Have you heard of Stitch Fix?

It’s a personalized styling service. You tell the stylists about what you like to wear and all your sizing info and they send you 5 items in every shipment. You get to try on the items in the box at your own pace and get to pair them with elements already in your wardrobe. Keep what you like and just send the rest back in prepaid envelopes. Super simple.

I learned about Stitch Fix from a post from the incredible talented scrapbooker (and mom to 4 adorable girls) Stephanie Howell. It looked like so much fun so I signed up. I had a bit of a wait time as it’s invite only at this point, similar to when Pinterest first started. Just be patient and you’ll get through quick enough.

My first Stitch Fix arrived last Friday so I had all last weekend to try on the stuff. It was a fun process because I got to do it when I was ready and look through my wardrobe to figure out what I could pair things with.

So here we go… don’t mind the super embarrassing pictures…

stitch fix_March_blue blazer_01 stitch fix_March_blue blazer_02

Item 1… Luii- Macey 3/4 Cleeve Jersey Blazer $78

stitch fix_March_blue blazer_03

I loved this item right when I saw it. I don’t have any blazers so I was really excited to open up the package and see this right on top. It fit well and I knew that I could wear it with several different outfits because of the style and the color. It could be great for work or great for a casual night out. So I decided to keep it. Totally love it.

stitch fix_March_black crossfront top_01

Item 2… Colourworks- Rose Jersey Crossfront Top $58

stitch fix_March_black crossfront top_02

It’s a shame that the photo doesn’t really show the detail of this top. It has a V-neck that doesn’t go too low but from there the front drapes down with extra fabric. It’s flattering and I like that it doesn’t actually scoop down very low. I decided to keep this and I’ve already worn it twice. I even paired it with the blazer one day.

stitch fix_March_wrap dress_01

Item 3… 41 Hawthorn- Calafia Jersey Wrap Dress $58

stitch fix_March_wrap dress_02

Well… OBVIOUSLY I will have to wear a tank under this. I basically knew that prior to putting it on but I tried it this way just for shits and giggles. These DD ladies don’t work well with a lot of things because they just get in the way. Seriously. So with all wrap dresses I wear a tank underneath so I don’t show my bra and boobs off. Kinda important. Aside from that I loved this dress. I loved the color and the fit so I decided to keep it.

stitch fix_March_patterned tunic_01

Item 4… 41Hawthorn- Layra 3/4 Sleeve Jersey Tunic Dress $58

stitch fix_March_patterned tunic_02

I could tell even before I put it on that it would not work out. I didn’t like the pattern nor the material. I put it on anyway and ugh. Way too small in the boob area. The ladies just stretched out the front and that was not gonna work. Plus I didn’t like the length so it was getting sent back.

stitch fix_March_popover blouse_01

Item 5… Angie- Filbert Elbow Sleep Popover Top $58

stitch fix_March_popover blouse_02

I had doubts when I saw this in the box because of the buttons. I generally have issues with button-downs so I figured this would be really iffy. Plus I didn’t love the color since I spill a lot. There is also a detail at the elbow that I didn’t like that much because it make it puffy there. All of my doubts were confirmed when I put it on… pass.

____________________

So I decided to get the first 3 items listed above. I logged into the Stitch Fix site to give my feedback on every time and then I sent back the 2 other items in the postage paid priority envelope. Simple and done! I have already worn everything and I love them. No regrets.

I can’t wait for the next box to arrive mid April. I gave pretty thorough feedback on every item and overall comments to help them figure out what to put into my next Stitch Fix box. I discussed colors, patterns, material, and pricing. I commented on how I really would like to avoid getting so much jersey knit things in 1 box as 4 out of 5 items were jersey. Also, emphasized the boob situation and how I really hope not to get any button downs. But overall I was really happy with the first Stitch Fix box I got.

So if this sounds like a fun way to try on some clothes then sign up, fill out some surveys, and then you are on your way to scheduling your first Stitch Fix box right to your door. My referral code is 3059041. Pretty, pretty please use it if you sign up. Thanks 🙂

Have fun!

What happens when 2 food bloggers hang out for 5 days?

Do they cook a ton? Do they develop recipes? Do they blog a lot?

No! They eat out at restaurants and get take out pizza, drink margaritas and eat chips and salsa for cinco de mayo, go to the zoo and Ikea, watch a lot of Top Chef and other reality TV, and take kids to the ER (well, only once).

Most importantly, they take pictures of their glittery shoes!!!

I really had an amazing time with Amanda having fun, relaxing, and playing around with 3 adorable kiddos.

The shoes I’m wearing (I have the tattoo) are from Mix No 6. in Barbie Glitter Pump. I love them as they are so comfortable and glittery!
