Our Fourth of July Fireworks

July 5, 2012

Yesterday my neighbor asked me not to move out soon. I was at first taken back… Move? How could we move? We just bought our place and moved in! Shit we just spent the day off putting up curtains! But quickly I could see it was a lovely sweet little comment about enjoying our company (past crazy neighbor didn’t speak to her) and her hope that we wouldn’t feel out of place with the community or with the neighbors*.

Basically, the neighbors a few houses down spent the afternoon setting off fireworks (as well as the past week). We had been talking about various things, including her skilled counted cross-stitch pieces that I was inadvertently recruited to measure for a frame, and we had to contastly pause between booms. I am all for fireworks but please explain to me the point in setting them off during the day. You can’t even see them clearly. It really was maddening. I love me some naps but there was no way that was happening on my day off. So I would roll my eyes with every bang and boom and go about doing things around the house.

Thankfully, they didn’t blast through their whole supply during the afternoon since they did manage to put on quite a show for the neighborhood once the sun went down. In fact, its seems everyone, everywhere was setting off fireworks as there were booms and flashes that could be seen all over from the front were Price and I sat while swatting off beastly ants. There was lighting storm off in the distance so that put on a nice show as well. It was amazing to see fireworks being set 150′ away, hearing deafening booms, & large colorful explosions over our heads. Major safety and fire hazard, but that’s part of the reason we sat outside with my phone at the ready.

It was not the Fourth of July that we were used to but it was just as great with some massive donuts, grilled lunch, and cold showers to cool off at night. And best off was that we didn’t need to travel into Boston for a great fireworks display.

How did you celebrate Independence Day?

*Price and I moved into a tiny city that is largely Hispanic. In fact 62.1% of folks answered “Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin” on the 2010 Census. In comparison, the MA return for the same question is 9.6% and the previous town we lived in was at 4.1%. None of that matters to us, but it just means that we are densely packed together and there is a pretty consistent stream of Spanish music blasting from a neighboring house or yard on the weekends. I think I have heard every Shakira song, twice.

All the cool kids are doing it

May 24, 2012

Earlier today I donated blood. My first time ever. I never could before because I had tattoos and a piercing that preventing me for qualifying whenever the thought of donating crossed my mind.

Couldn’t in high school because I got my first tattoo in on my 18th birthday, obviously. Then in college I couldn’t because of a belly button piercing (10/03) then a tattoo and then it’s follow up touch up. Then I got my foot tattoo at the end of ’10. You have to wait a year before you can donated after each of these things so I was finally able to do so at the beginning of this year. And with the Red Cross having a blood drive just 4 floors up from my lovely cubical today I figure I would do it.

It was so simple. Didn’t hurt at all. I am actually fearing that ripping the pieces of tape and band-aid off my arm will hurt the most. Damn that smarts!

I got a Red Sox shirt some cheez-its and a cute teeny tiny can of cranberry juice. win-win!

I really could go on and on about how great it is to donate blood and how easy it is to do but I’ll let you do your own research since I have better things to do than copy paste the red cross info on my site…you know, like listen to Goyte’s “Somebody that I used to know” for the 1,000th time.

Top Priorities

May 9, 2012

What happens when 2 food bloggers hang out for 5 days?

Do they cook a ton? Do they develop recipes? Do they blog a lot?

No! They eat out at restaurants and get take out pizza, drink margaritas and eat chips and salsa for cinco de mayo, go to the zoo and Ikea, watch a lot of Top Chef and other reality TV, and take kids to the ER (well, only once).

Most importantly, they take pictures of their glittery shoes!!!

I really had an amazing time with Amanda having fun, relaxing, and playing around with 3 adorable kiddos.

The shoes I’m wearing (I have the tattoo) are from Mix No 6. in Barbie Glitter Pump. I love them as they are so comfortable and glittery!

Our House

May 2, 2012

Is a very, very fine house…

(back unit- furthest from street)

WE CLOSED ON OUR HOUSE ON MONDAY!!!!!

HORRAY!!!!!

We’re really excited about the new adventure at hand. We have been discussing where different pieces of furniture can go around the house. What new pieces we can get, what to get rid of. It’s all about making this space our own. I’m super excited about the kitchen and open first floor, Pricer is excited about a man cave, and we are both really excited to have an outside space again. 🙂

Exciting first purchase (besides something I ordered online) for the house were trash cans.

And these are some pics…

I realized I didn’t take any photos of the living room… imagine a room with 2 windows.

NOOOOO, NOT FRANK!!!!!!!!

April 29, 2012

Some a-hole hit our car while I was at CVS today getting photos developed. I didn’t notice it from the way that I parked, as I did not need to pass the back of the car to get into the driver’s seat. But Pricer had to run an errand tonight and saw it while he was out. He came back looking very solemn and said ‘Someone hit Frank’. At first I thought he was talking about a scratch on the passenger’s side of the bumper so I went out to take a look, but holy hell someone really hit our Frank The Tank*

Thanks jerk.

*Price named the car ‘Frank The Tank’ because this teeny tiny car has put up with our crazy city driving and our long crazy adventures.

On Guard

April 20, 2012

So if you happen to follow me on Twitter you might have noticed yesterday morning that I was venting about how one of my coworkers scared the bejeezus out of me when came over to check on the status on a project. I startle VERY easily so it’s not hard to scare me to death I am in the zone and listening to music. I was tweaking out since I was afraid of it happening it again so I figured something would have to be done to prevent another heart attack.  I didn’t want to change the configuration of my desk so I came up with a solution.

Behold!

I hoped over to Amazon and ordered these nifty 1.5″ Convex Round Blind Spot Mini Safety Mirrors. Yes, these are normally used for your side mirrors to reduce your blind spot but I figured they would do. A little Amazon Prime Overnight Upgrade and ta-da (!!) I had them this morning and put them into use today.

So now when someone approaches from the main hall I can see them coming and not jump out of my seat when tapped on the shoulder.

This one handles the back approach from the small aisle at the end of our desks.

I need to get some of that tacky poster tape to better adhere them in place on my monitors but so far so good.
