Birthday Sweets LO- Sketchbook 3 Day 2 Sketch

April 25, 2011

CKC Manchester 2011 is coming up this Friday. I’m really, really excited about taking the day off and going!! I went last year and had a great time. Three of us went had a great time taking classes and shopping. One of the things I picked up shopping were these vintage looking stickers from Melody Ross. I fell in love with them, althought i had NO idea what i would scrap with them. Well, once this paper arrived at my door step from my Studio Calico kit, I knew I would be using these stickers soon. I loved the paper the minute I saw it, even though it is not something I typically gravitate to.

Such ‘girlie’ looking pages are not something I create often. But I pulled out all stops for this one using a floral paper, pink glittery thickers, butterflies, pale colors, a papery ribbon. Boy oh boy, who knew I had so much of this ‘girlie’ stuff!

Hello Buffalo LO- 10.3 Studio Calico Sunday Sketch

April 21, 2011

Sketch1

I’ll admit that I was a bit intimidated with this Studio Calico Sunday Sketch. This is not the kinda of thing I gravitate to. umm hello? Flags? I thought it was all a bit kitschy but I dove on it and instead of nixing the flags I worked with it. I put the title on the flags so they seemed a bit more significant than just embellishment flags. I think that they work on the page but I wish they would made them a bit smaller. Live and learn

One of my new favorite things when it comes to scrapbooking is getting Price involved. Whenever my Studio Calico kits arrive I go through the papers, I just love paper. After I have made my pass through them I hold each one up and flip from A side to B side and ask which he likes more. Typically, we like the same. I just find that interesting and pretty cute.

In the case of this layout, I had a few different papers in mind but I was unsure of which one. So I laid out a couple different options and reviewed them with Price and he helped out. Besides that it’s nice that he is ever so slightly involved in my hobby, it’s nice that he helped out on a layout that was focused on a day that he planned for us.

6 Years LO- Studio Calico 1/2 Sunday Sketch

April 18, 2011

Emily_sketch

Sometimes I can slack off at blogging, as in the case of this layout which has been sitting in my draft box for weeks. So I’m cracking the whip on myself and posting.

I decided to use this Sunday Sketch because it was issued on our anniversary. So, I thought it would be fitting to use the 1/2 sketch for a photo taken on 1/2. I originally planned this layout to use quote bubbles saying the title, but when it really came down to it I didn’t feel like cutting out bubbles. Lazy much? So I used to stickers to layer the title on. I think it works just as well.

I loved using the Studio Calico hexagon stamp. Obviously I love it since it reminds me of honeycomb (hello, honey bee!), but i loved how well it went with the paper I wanted to use. I hate to be so matchy matchy but I could not resist.

Are We Done Yet? LO- Sketchbook 3 Day 1

April 6, 2011

6a00d83451b9ea69e2014e5fbd29ca970c

-Day 1-

I knew I would be signing up once I saw that Kelly Purkey was doing Sketchbook 3, another online class based upon sketches. This is my 4th online class taught my Kelly. I’ve been hooked to her blog and her classes since I took her first one.

Anyway, I was giddy to wake up on Monday (a first!) to welcome the first sketch that was waiting for me in my inbox. I had this photo reserved for a different sketch but it was not really clicking for me so it was just sitting there. But when I saw the sketch I knew this photo would work well for it. The sketch had 2 spots for photos and it was orientated a different way. Instead of worrying about using one picture, I just moved forward with the 1, but added the rectangular accent to balance the page.

I’m really looking forward to the rest of the class. 1 down, 11 to go.

26 in 26 Mini Book- Progress #1

March 30, 2011

My 25 in 25 list fell flat on it’s face last year. I debated doing a 26 in 26 list this year because of how rough it had started. Thankfully I decided that it would be fun and I would enjoy the challenge in getting all those things done, as well as documenting those accomplishments/milestones.

I decided that a mini book would be best for this process. When I did my 25 in 25 I documented my items all on a 2page LO in my yearly scrapbook. It is great to look at that page to see my goals, but I didn’t have anything to go along with checking them off and documenting meeting my goals. So my mini book idea was born.

The concept behind the book was to have my list of 26 items so I could track my progress, as well as a place to put the photos documenting the things I accomplished. But how oh how would I do this in the book? A list in the very beginning and then the rest of the pages would get filled in? No, that did not seem right. It made the list seem disconnected from the items, as well as repeative since I would clearly need to rewrite my thing with the photo.

So my book was developed to have each item to have a L page and a R page. The goal would be listed at the top of the L page. This would leave the remaining portion of that page for my journaling and the whole R page for photos. I understand that there will be times I will want to change things up if I have more journaling/photos but it’s working for now.

I’m hoping that I really make a better go at accomplishing this list of 26 items than last years 25 things. I will periodically post about my progress of the list, as well as how my book is coming together.

Happy Birthday Jason LO- Studio Calico 10/17 Sunday Sketch

March 23, 2011

Sketch

Okay, so don’t judge so much… This Studio Calico Sunday Sketch is from October. Aye Aye aye! Well, here it is anyway. 🙂 I did a lot of flipping and flopping when it came to this sketch because I wanted different photos to hold more importance than others, also I wanted the page to feel balanced. I really enjoyed getting to work with photos from our friend Jason’s recent birthday. I have been trying to keep up with my layouts, just maybe not the sketches 😛

I have to admit that since I have been ‘forced’ to use Tickers (alphabet sticker sets) since subscribing to Studio Calico kits, that I have been enjoying them. Alphabet stickers are still not my favorite things because I always run out of the letters I need and I end up with so many damn J, K, Q, X Y, Z, etc left behind. For a long time I only used my Cricut for my tiles so I could get the exact letter, size, paper/ color that I wanted. I now have been embracing the different brands of alphabet stickers, while still going back to my Cricut for some titles.

Supplies (off the top of my head): Cosmo Cricket Pattered paper, American Crafts Thickers, Stampin’ Up Solid Paper, Studio Calico Solid Paper, October Afternoon Shape Stickers

Fondue Feast LO- Studio Calico 1/16 Sunday Sketch

March 11, 2011

Nik_sketch

I was a bit put off with this sketch because it used such small images. It made sense for the inspirational layout that generated this sketch. But how would I use photos with it. They would be so small and, umm, what the hell is the point then? no? I got over the fear because I realized that this layout would end up being more about the story (journaling) and less about the pictures. So I picked my photos and got to work!

While I made a mini book of our trip to Montreal I decided to do whole page layouts for a few things. I like to document vacations in layouts, as well as mini books, so I pick a few key things to focus a layout on. In this case, I wanted to document our factastic lunch/dinner on 1.1.11. We headed into Crepe Suzette and had some fondue, a dessert crepe, and some VERY strong after dinner coffee drinks. Nothing entirely special about lunch, but I wanted to document it. I wanted to look back and remember how the bloody mary I had was horrible, that it was raining, and we got really buzzed on spikes coffee’s. I just want to remember how we started the new year.

Hell Night LO- Studio Calico 12/26 Sunday Sketch

March 8, 2011

Susan_sketch

This Sunday Sketch from Studio Calico is going to be one that I refer to time and time again. I love how it allows you to include so many photos, or journaling spots, or just accents with patterned paper.

I used this sketch for a layout that documented our Mystery Meet #7 experience at Hell Night at East Coast Grill. Because it was a food event I was focused on the food, more than that people there. I don’t think they minded any way since we all looked like we were in agony of that heat that the ghost chili oil gave off.

Crate Paper made a line of stickers for Studio Calico that I love. This sticker sheet came in the Candy Shop kit. I used the yellow horizontal sticker and the label from that set. I’ve already used up about 90% of that sheet.

For some reason the red alphas made it their damn mission not to stick to the paper. Typically I encounter that situation on textured paper, but this paper was not textured. Very strange. Hoping it’s just this layout being difficult, and not an issue with the stickers.

Snowloko 2 LO- Studio Calico 1/23 Sunday Sketch

1/23 Sunday Sketch

Tina_sketch

This winter has been horrible in Boston. Actually January was the worst. We were pounded with snow storm after snow storm. So I have plenty of photos of snow, snow drifts, being bundled up, etc. As much as I would love to forget this winter it is definitely memorable.

This layout is a dead ringer for this sketch. It worked out perfectly. I wanted to emphasize Price bundled up while showing the snow. Of course the snow is important, but it is rather plan to showcase. So I had my main photo established and the rest were small ones (9 in a 4×6 photo) that told the overall story.

I added more embellishments to use up my stash, as well as create a visual triangle. I had a bunch of Stampin’ Up! rub-ons that I transfered to colored paper so they would pop off the black. I wanted to use the black paper so the white of the snow would stand out against it.

Supplies: Studio Calico’s Solid black sheet of paper, Stampin’ Up! solid color paper, rub-on’s, and glittered brads

Tattoo 3 LO- Studio Calico 1/9 Sunday Sketch

March 3, 2011

The whole point of a Sunday Sketch from the Studio Calico blog is that is inspires you to be creative. The sketch is to get your juices flowing and get to work. I used the structure and organization of the sketch to assemble my layout. The photos are where the journaling is in the sketch, and the photo and the color block is now the journaling and the photo below it. But if you take a look the essence of the page is still there.

I’m kinda in love with tags again. I finished up my pack with these 3 that I used for journaling. I have them on my list of “must haves” again. Not high on my list is textured paper, which stickers, in this case alpha stickers, don’t stick well to.

The Cape LO

March 1, 2011

During this past summer, Emily and I did a day trip down to Cape Cod. We had a blast, as usual. I wrote up a blog post about it called : “Surf, Turf and a hint of Cirrhosis” That day was a whirlwind of adventures from breakfast, a Strawberry festival, shopping, the beach, getting seafood, making dinner and enjoying some boxed wine. While I want to make a (zany?) layout documenting all of that, I wanted to do a layout for just these 2 instax photos. I didn’t want them to get lost in the action of the other anticipated layout.

So I created a simple 2 photo layout. Some of the products I were Ki, American Crafts (Dear Lizzy line), Fine and Dandy, and House of 3. My favorite things to use were the text scribbles from Ki and the patterned paper from House of 3. I loved the long sticker and how it worked so well with the layout. The background paper was so sweet with the embossed butterfly.

Cara’s First Christmas LO- Studio Calico 2/7 Sunday Sketch

February 27, 2011

-2/7 Studio Calico Sunday Sketch-

Years ago, if you would have asked me if I ever would have done pages with 1 photo I would have laughed at you. My pages were filled with pictures because I wanted to be able to look back and see all the pictures we took documenting the event. It’s funny to see how things have changed. I definitely think this is for the better since I have distilled my pages to feature the best pictures, not all pictures.

This page features my niece, who was about 2mo at the time. Cara is such a sweet baby that I wanted to do a page showing her off, showing her first Christmas off. We had plenty of photos of me holding her, which I could have included, but I wanted the feature to be Cara, and not me. I captured my moments with Cara in my journaling, but let the picture I selected show what I was most interested in… Cara.
